What a great night!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported Alaska Mountain Rescue Group yesterday. We had a fantastic turnout, lots of laughs, and a whole lot of fun at Trivia Night.

A special thank you to Brewing Co. for hosting us and helping make the evening such a success, and to Raising Cane’s for supporting AMRG through the Dine to Donate fundraiser.

Whether you grabbed dinner at Cane’s, joined us for trivia, or did both, we’re grateful for your support of mountain rescue in Alaska.

If you are heading outside to find some early-season turns, it's time to start thinking about avalanches. You can check our website for early-season travel advice to knock off the summer cobwebs.

If you're going to trigger an avalanche this time of year, it is most likely on upper-elevation, wind-loaded slopes. If there is enough snow to ski and ride, there is enough snow to slide. Whether you are hiking or skiing, be leery of steep terrain where the snow looks drifted and deep—even a small avalanche may have serious consequences.

AMRG members gathered near Eklutna Lake today for a search and rescue training exercise in the Twin Peaks area.

The scenario: Three hunters had failed to return home and were believed to be hunkering down somewhere in the area.

The exercise gave our volunteer rescuers a chance to sharpen their search and coordination skills for real-world callouts.

Avalanche season is here. Please be aware of the hazards when heading into the mountains

We’re getting word of an avalanche north of Eklutna lake in the vicinity of Pepper Peak. Two individuals were caught/ carried and sustained non- life threatening injuries. They were evacuated via helicopter and are both in stable condition. Unfortunately, their dog remains missing.

October in Alaska is avalanche season and has been known to catch hunters and hikers off guard as the first snows can rapidly load avalanche paths, quickly creating very dangerous conditions.
