Huffman/O'Malley Community Council

Huffman/O'Malley Community Council A place for our Lower Hillside voices to be heard!

To provide a direct and continuing means of citizen participation in local affairs and to perform those functions and exercise those powers granted or permitted by the provisions of municipal code. The council is intended to give:
-Local people a method by which they can work together for expression and discussion of their opinions, needs and desires in a manner that will have an impact on their c

ommunity’s development and services;
-Governmental agencies a method for receiving opinions, needs, desires and recommendations of residents and groups: and,
- Local governing bodies an improved basis for decision-making and assignment of priorities for all programs affecting community development and individual well-being.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight. We had great presentations from Assembly Member Erin Baldwin-Day on the Missing Middle Housing Overlay Project, Amanda Hults from Great Land Trust on a trail project connecting neighborhoods to Bowman Elementary, and an in-depth discussion on the state of education funding. Tonight was the very best of what our Community Council can be. Thanks to all who attended and had passionate, but respectful, dialogue about real issues facing us as a Municipality and a State. Finally, thanks to Dr. Luke Almon for rescuing us and giving us a place to land at South High School. We will see you all at our September meeting on the 17th!

Many of you have been asking about the sprinkler kits and chipping days. They are still planned for this summer. See the attached pictures for more information. If you want to participate in a chipping day, please follow the following link to ensure your property qualifies. A Firewise assessment is required prior to being eligible to participate. This was not a requirement we were aware of when this program was first brought to us, but we hope that everyone who was interested will still participate.

HOCC’s first meeting of the fall will be the evening of 20 August at 7pm online and at Huffman Elementary. We welcome all neighbors to attend! Community Councils are the grassroots level of our local and state politics and the best place to share your views on the issues that affect our everyday lives the most. Our elected officials attend specifically to hear from us. Use that opportunity. Whether it’s education, roads, housing, wildfire risk, trails, or something else, we welcome you to show up and speak up.
