180 packs of markers.

You may be wondering how this relates to homelessness? 180 packs of new markers, that might not sound like much in the grand scheme of things but for a child experiencing homelessness or a family experiencing poverty, it can mean everything.

It means walking into the first day of school with something that’s theirs. It means not having to borrow, not having to feel different, not having to start behind the curve.

We talk a lot about homelessness in terms of housing and that matters! But it’s also about dignity. Stability. Confidence.

When a child starts the school year with new supplies, they start with a sense of belonging. And that sense of belonging can change how they show up, how they learn, and how they see their future.

Rocket Fuel & Henning will be hosting our annual back to school bash on August 15th. If your student needs a backpack filled with new school supplies, please join us at Mountain View Community Center from 1-5 PM!

If your business would like to host a clothing drive, you want to clean out your closet or you feel like some charitable giving, Henning is looking for support this season on men and women’s clothing as well as hygiene products! Housing Pathways

Shelter is just the beginning.

At Henning Inc, we work every day to help people transition into stable housing — because lasting change happens when people have a place to call home. We operate Henning House and the former Golden Lion which serves 300 individuals in transitional and permanent housing.

It’s cleaning week at shelter and it is a chance to reset!

This week, our team at Henning Inc is focused on deep cleaning shared spaces, organizing supplies, and making sure every corner of our facility reflects the care our community deserves. From sleeping areas to common rooms, every detail matters. Clean, safe spaces are part of that foundation.

Grateful for the staff and volunteers showing up to do the hard, unglamorous work that keeps our doors functioning with dignity and respect.

"Why don't they just get a job?"

Try filling out a job application without a phone for employers to call, without an ID for employment forms, without an address, or an even a clean shirt. Now try it after three nights without sleep because the camp got swept and the shelters are full from cold weather.

We need to make it easier for clients who want to exit homelessness and gain employment to do so. We should be prioritizing this population in our shelters and transitional housing because when there's a personal will to succeed, there should be a way!

We employ 78 Alaskans. Many of them were our clients first.
That's not a feel-good stat, it's our entire model. We don't bring in policy experts, we hire the people who have ate, slept and breathed this very system.

Our team shows up at medical appointments, methadone clinics, treatment drop offs, court dates, AA meetings, reunification visits, faith services, mediations, apartment showings etc for as long as our clients need support.

Walking beside someone makes the difference. That's why it works.
