Dolly Parton was a true champion of early literacy, and this week the Jones Library is celebrating her with a display of children's books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Last summer, local author and long-time Mount Holyoke professor Martha Ackmann was our guest speaker at the Friends Annual Meeting. The topic was her new book, Ain't Nobody's Fool: the Life and Times of Dolly Parton. Check it out at the library!

Thanks, Jones Library Kids Room staff!

Many of our local students started school this week, and some are starting next week. It's a time of big transitions that can bring big feelings—excitement, nervousness, uncertainty.

Stop by the Children's Department at the Jones, Munson Memorial, and North Amherst libraries to see a friendly face and find some books about school. (On a personal note: My son found them incredibly helpful for his transition to kindergarten two years ago!)

Sammy and Hattie, our library owls, want to thank you for supporting our libraries (and so do the library staff)!

Did you know that the Jones Library and its branches are funded not only by the Town of Amherst, but by donations from supporters like you?

Since the 1920s, Friends organizations have sprung up across the US, and they now number in the thousands (between 4,400-5,000). Many are run by volunteers, and some are separate 501(c)3 organizations that exist with the sole purpose of funding a library or library system—just like us!

Sammy flew over to the Children’s Department at the Jones Library’s temporary location recently!

Library staff are excited to return to the heart of downtown next year, spread out into a more spacious department, and have a dedicated program room for kids and families.

Want to take a peek at the future Children’s Department and find out how you can support the library?

This summer, we asked ESL/Citizenship tutors, students, and staff at the Jones Library about their experiences in the program. Today you can listen to our intern, Nimah, read the words of tutor Francesca Forrest as she describes what it's like to work with members of our community who have come here from abroad and are welcomed into Amherst via the library.
