First Church Amherst

First Church Amherst We are God’s hands and feet. Together we seek to follow the call of Jesus Christ. We are a congregation of the United Church of Christ.

Empowered by God’s Spirit, we commit ourselves to doing God’s work: seeking justice, loving kindness, making peace, and walking humbly together with God. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here. We are an Open & Affirming, Just Peace, Earth Covenant, anti-racism, and Immigrant-Welcoming congregation. Come worship with us at 10:30 on Sunday mornings! We are an

Open and Affirming congregation, welcoming people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions, and those of any race, socio-economic status, ethnic background, age, nationality, marital status or physical or mental ability into the full life and ministry of the church. We are a Just Peace church, committed to peaceful and just relations in all areas of our society and our world. We are an Earth Covenant Congregation, committing ourselves with integrity to care for God’s Creation. We are a congregation committed to pro-active anti-racism—seeking with God’s help to be a force for the elimination of racism and white privilege. We are a sanctuary church, committed to protecting the rights of all people.

We would love to see you this Saturday at Hampshire PRIDE in Northampton! First Church Amherst will be marching in celebration of YOU--and of our 39 years (yes, 39 years!) of being an Open and Affirming Church. We'll meet up at the Sheldon Firld parking lot, March/parade to the Festival area near the parking garage, and then spend hours offering Blessings to Go and giving away cool swag at our outreach table. See you there! (Here are a few photos from previous Pride celebrations; we’ve been participating every year since 2008, at least.)

Read the Pastoral Letter from Executive Conference Minister and President the Rev. Darrell Goodwin in response to recent news, including a former lieutenant governor in Virginia fatally shooting his wife, and the unveiling of a website and chat group teaching men how to drug and sexually assault their partners.
