Distant Hill Nature Trail is a mile-long network of gently sloping compacted gravel trails on 21 acres in south-western Alstead, NH. The five-foot wide trails wind through a hemlock/hardwood forest rich with many species of native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees and give easy access to a number of unique wetland habitats including: five vernal pools, a black ash forest seep, and a floating cranberry bog/fen. You will also find White Rock Woods, a nature play area, near the start of the trail.
Distant Hill Nature Trail is wheelchair and stroller accessible, with many sitting stones along the trail for rest and contemplation.
Abutting Distant Hill Nature Trail is Distant Hill Gardens, an environmental and horticultural learning center with an additional 37 acres to explore.
Distant Hill NatureTrail is free and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Trailhead parking is available, along with an information kiosk.
