We are super excited to have this highly capable truck on order! This apparatus purchase was made possible through a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) covering the majority of the cost. The remaining will be covered via existing capital reserve funds. Upon delivery we will retire our 1978 Mini-Pumper after nearly 50 years of service to the town. Huge thank you to the committee members, Selectmen, folks at Allegiance Fire & Rescue and Skeeter Emergency Vehicles who helped make this happen.

Due to consistent dry conditions and the current drought, Fire Warden John Berglund has issued a ban on all outside burning until further notice. Seasonal permit holders are asked to refrain from utilizing your burn permits and no additional permits will be issued until conditions improve. Any questions or concerns feel free to contact Chief Brooks or Warden Berglund.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Today at 11:29am Surry Fire Department was dispatched to 171 Pond Road for a reported building fire with a burn victim. 30 E2 followed by 30 E1 arrived on scene of a fully involved single story metal shop building with an exposure to a dump truck.

The burn victim and sole occupant of the fire building at the time of the incident was treated and transported by Keene 19A2 to The Cheshire Medical Center. The patient was later Transported via DHART helicopter to a burn center in Boston.

Incident went to a 2nd Alarm at 11:49 to bring in additional mutual aid tankers for water supply. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and declare under control at 12:25. The building and contents are considered a total loss, however, crews were able to minimize the damage to the exposed vehicles.

Surry units were assisted on scene by Professional Firefighters of Keene IAFF Local 3265, Alstead Fire and Rescue and Walpole Fire-EMS. The NH Fire Marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation however the incident is not considered suspicious in nature. As always we are greatful for our mutual aid partners and assistance they provide.

This morning members trained on vehicle stabilization and lifting. We ran several different evolutions utilizing all our equipment obtained through FEMA AFG (assistance to firefighters grant) received last year. Huge thank you to Dean from Firematic for coming out and providing us with some top notch training.

The fire permit system allows fire officials to know where fires are occurring, thus preventing them from responding to controlled fires when smoke is reported.

The current fire permit system in NH offers both a paper permit and online permit option.

Last night around 7:15pm Surry FD was dispatched to a report of road flooding followed by a tree on wires on Gilsum Rd near the intersection with Rt-12A. The road was closed at that time through the night. Today the bridges crew from NH DOT based in Antrim repaired a hole compromising both lanes and as of 1pm Gilsum Rd was reopened.
Thanks to Surry road agent Durwin Clark and NH Department of Transportation all roads in Surry are passable.

Use caution when traveling some shoulder repairs remain to be completed, never go around barricades or cones, and stay out of flood waters! https://www.readynh.gov/disasters/floods.htm

One of the most prominent dangers we face as firefighters is the significant elevated risk of contracting cancer. Lieutenant Aaron Cooper, a close friend of many of us on SFD, is facing that reality now.
Please read the Go Fund Me page and consider donating to ease the financial burden of treatment for him and his family. Coop is a fighter and is doing everything right to beat this diagnosis. He has loyally served the citizens of the region for over 20 years. Now he needs support to help him win this battle.

Hello everyone, Your friend, and our brother Aaron “Coop” Cooper has been diagnosed with stage… Steven Dumont needs your support for Help Coop beat Cancer!
