Did you know? Elaine Hagenberg, the composer of "Nox," featured on our program this coming Saturday, describes the piece "As light and shadow collide through shifting harmonies, unexpected modulations, and unanticipated rhythms, the music gives voice to the struggle, asking which will prevail: light or dark, hope or despair, a question that has echoed throughout human history." She also shares that "through song, we can turn our eyes from the surrounding darkness and lift our voices to offer comfort, beauty, and hope."

Hear this piece and more at The Camerata Singers' spring concert on May 2 at 3pm, America Sings! We'll be featuring choral music from American composers to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Find out more details at pacameratasingers.org.

Did you know? "To Sit and Dream" by Rosephanye Powell is a reflection of the words and contemplation of Langston Hughes' poem, "To You." The middle section represents a dream world "unfettered from racism, inequality ... until all are walking down the streets of NY, hand-in-hand in unity."

Come enjoy the journey of this piece and more at The Camerata Singers' spring concert on May 2 at 3pm, America Sings! We'll be featuring choral music from American composers to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Find out more details at pacameratasingers.org.

Did you know? "Can We Sing the Darkness to Light" by Kyle Pederson, in his words, "is an invitation to live better in community...exchanging certainty for curiosity, judgement for empathy, revenge for compassion." He mentions that the piece ends with a bit of uncertainty, "leaving the listener with a bit of a question, rather than an exclamation point."

Elaine Hagenberg will be featured on our program on May 2! If you’d like a preview of her beautiful work, check out the Concord Chamber Singers this Sunday!

Elaine Hagenberg published her first piece in 2013 while raising four children and within a decade her music had reached Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Vatican. A Drake University graduate and winner of the 2020 ACDA Brock Prize for Professional Composers, she has built herself one of the most impressive catalogs in contemporary choral music outside of the usual institutional channels. When she's not composing, she paints landscapes, tends to her orchid collection, and makes latte art, which feels very on brand for someone whose music is this unhurried and beautiful.
This Sunday, the Concord Chamber Singers perform her "You Do Not Walk Alone," a setting of a traditional Irish blessing that has become one of the most performed choral pieces of the last decade. It is warm and luminous, and it’s the kind of song whose message comes back to you when you need it most.

Did you know? Our concert features "Frostiana," which is a suite of choral pieces by Randall Thompson featuring the poetry of Robert Frost. It was commissioned by the town of Amherst in honor of its bicentennial in 1959. Robert Frost had lived there for some years and had known Thompson and admired his music. It's a beautiful celebration of American poetic words put to music.

Join The Camerata Singers for our spring concert on May 2 at 3pm, America Sings! We'll be featuring choral music from American composers to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Find out more details at pacameratasingers.org.
