Sunday, Sept. 14 - beautiful weather at a beautiful park. Come join us at 3:00 pm at West Park (16th & Linden Sts.) for our final concert of the summer season. This will be a Tribute to Ray Becker concert. Ray was our conductor from Jan. 1962-April 2006. The program will feature many of his compositions and more; he was a truly gifted composer, and the amazing thing about his works is that they did not all sound similar. Sometimes when you hear something by Mozart that you never heard before, you think, gee, that sounds like Mozart. But Ray's style was quite diversified, and his works are very enjoyable to both play and listen to. (It would be great if you comment on that point after you hear the concert.)
And again, it will truly be a family affair. Ray's son Matt is the conductor of the band since 2021; Matt's wife Brenda will be in the percussion section. Ray's daughter Ronda will sing, and Matt's daughter Brianna will sing and be the announcer for the program. And Ray's son-in-law will be in the trombone section.
There are plenty of benches, and there is plenty of room if you prefer to bring chairs or a blanket. And the park is pet-friendly.
And the concert is, of course, free.
(The current forecast is for no rain, but just in case it is wet, we will move to the Active Life Center at 1633 Elm St.; parking is in the rear off of Fairview.)
Hope to see you there!!

It's going to be a beautiful evening for a concert. Fortunately, we are playing one. Join us on the east side of Allentown at Midway Manor Park. If you don't know where it is, you can use 2020 E. Pennsylvania St. for your GPS. Or if you know where A-Treat on the boulevard used to be, it's just a few blocks north of there between Tacoma and Ulster Streets.
Matt has chosen a very entertaining program including Tiger Rag, A Tribute to Jerome Kern, A Bona-fide-Beguine and Holiday for Trombones (featuring Mitchell, Tom, and Tim), three favorites from Leroy Anderson, and more.
The concert starts at 7:00, and be sure to bring chairs!
