Dennis and Coletta Shelly Honored at Lancaster Bible College

FIM congratulates Dennis and Coletta Shelly, who served as teaching missionaries in Nigeria for nearly forty years. During Homecoming on September 19, 2026, Lancaster Bible College honored the Shellys with the 2026 Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award. The college held a luncheon for them and two other alumni award recipients and their guests. This special recognition honors their ministry of teaching the Bible and training Nigerian pastors at two Bible schools in that country. Their humble spirit, academic excellence, and organizational skills impacted two generations of Nigerian leaders to proclaim the gospel and establish churches across Nigeria and other African nations. The Shellys continue to serve the ECWA Theological Seminary in Kagoro, Nigeria through guidance, advocacy, and financial advancement. We praise God for the Shellys' enduring legacy and celebrate this wonderful honor!

Kevin & Alina Beach (Mexico) hosted an event on their church
property with an organization called Peace Animals which engages
veterinarians to spay and neuter cats and dogs for free. Because the pet owners were required to wait for their pets and the weather was hot, the Beaches opened the upstairs air-conditioned church
“sanctuary” for the waiting pet owners, offering snacks and drinks.
People were curious about the church, asking questions. At one
point, the owner of Peace Animals asked Kevin what the church
believes…a perfect opportunity to share the gospel as everyone
listened. The following Sundays, pet owners showed up for
church!

His was a life characterized by alcohol and brokenness. Then a co-worker invited the man to the church started by Craig & Debbie Borgard (Germany). As he began asking questions about his bro- ken past, the man learned that he was a sinner, that he needed to repent and trust in Jesus for salvation He turned to Christ and is still learning. He attends every service and has gone through the membership course. When Easter rolled around, for the first time in his life, he was amazed to discover that Jesus had risen from the dead!

From Nahuatl Words to God’s Word!
Besides Spanish, different Aztec languages are spoken by indigenous peoples of Mexico. Arturo & Silvia Tomé are not fluent in Nahuatl, but at a produce market, Silvia said something to Arturo in that language. A young man overheard them and asked, “Are you from God? I want to know about Christ.” Right then and there, he trusted in Christ. That Sunday, he came to church with members of his family-- twelve adults and five children.

His difficult childhood, abuse, and struggles in school only drew the young man closer to God. Koffi & Christy Etsrou (Togo) discipled him first through the Good News Club, then through weekly Bible studies during his middle school years. He came to the Etsrous’ home every week to talk and to do ministry together. In high school, he led music and crafts at the VBS camps in three locations each summer, helped teach Bible stories at the Good News Clubs, and led devotions at the summer enrichment programs.
He would ask for Bibles so that he could share the gospel with his friends. When his cousin told him about his struggles, he led the cousin to Christ and brought him to church.
The young man is now in university in the capital city. Saddened that the neighborhood children don’t know anything about Jesus, he started teaching a small group of them whenever he could. He also organized a Good News Club with 30 children, and he excitedly sends to the Etsrou famly videos, messages, and pictures of the children hearing about the love of Jesus for the first time!
