The Glass Waste Diversion Program was created to better utilize glass waste at local restaurants and bars— that would otherwise be buried in the Blount County Landfill— by providing the missing link between participating businesses and the Blount County Recycling Center. ♻

You never know what you will find on a litter cleanup! 💀😂

Thank you to the hard-working volunteers that helped to clean up Pistol Creek with City of Alcoa, TN Government and Brown Creek with cityofmaryville! All together, volunteers removed 41 bags of litter, 5 tires, a wheelchair, suitcase, bike tires, various metal and wood scrap—and a plastic skeleton!—from in and around each creek. 💪

Pollution goes where stormwater flows! 💦Litter in our watershed is destined to enter our local creeks, rivers, and lakes. Please dispose of your trash properly.

The Pistol Creek Cleanup+Brown Creek Cleanup was funded by a Keep America Beautiful® Greatest American Cleanup® Grant in celebration of the county’s 250th birthday. 🎉

WaterFest was a blast! 💦💦💦

Students from Friendsville Elementary School and Montvale Elementary School visited the Eco Center at DENSO Manufacturing for a morning filled with water-related lessons and activities. Students learned about water treatment, stormwater runoff, watersheds, the water cycle, and more.

Thank you to and Blount County Stormwater, Water Treatment Plant, and for partnering with KBB to provide this fun field trip opportunity.

Join us certain Friday's as we post a Glass Fact to better educate the community on glass waste and recycling in Blount County. ♻ Did you know Blount County uses pulverized glass waste as aggregate in local projects? This means the county does not need to purchase as much aggregate from natural sources, AND 3.2 million pounds of glass has been diverted from the landfill!

About the Glass Waste Diversion Program: Funded by Arconic Foundation, the Glass Waste Diversion Program makes better use of glass waste created at local restaurants and bars that would normally end up in the landfill. Through this program, KBB provides the missing link between participating businesses and the Blount County Recycling Center where glass is pulverized and used as aggregate in local projects. ♻

PLUS- A big part of the program includes YOU! Anyone in Blount County can take their glass to the Blount County Recycling Center for recycling and use KBB as their glass recycling resource.

KBB’s student education programs bring some GREEN to the classroom with lessons and activities on litter, the 3 Rs, water quality, and energy. We can even help get your students out of the classroom with field trips to the landfill, recycling center, and more!

Our program coordinator, Courtney, has been busy visiting schools in Blount County (shoutout to Rockford, Alcoa, and Foothills Elementary!) We also took Kindergarteners on a field trip to the landfill and Eco Center. 😁♻️
