In one year alone, the Alcoa/Maryville/Blount County Landfill will take in over 130,000 tons of residential and commercial waste, demolition materials, and brush! It’s important to understand how your local landfill works to ensure we are working together as a county to keep our landfill going! Here are some updates that are important for customers to know:
-Landfill operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday. The landfill is closed on Sundays.
-We have a new Air-Curtain Destructor that burns all untreated wood much quicker than the retired destructor. This allows for the landfill to keep brush debris to a minimum. Logs cannot be longer than 24 inches.
-The landfill does collect some recyclables, including tires, computers, metals, clean rock and brick, and freon (removed from refrigerated appliances). All other recyclables can be taken to the Blount County Recycling Center (including glass!).
-Mattresses and box springs are $25 each.
-All waste is $60 per ton, and special waste is $65 per ton.
-Tires are 2.50 each up to 8. After 8, they are $120 per ton, with a minimum of $30 for 500 pounds or less.
-Refrigerated appliances are $20 each.
These updates are important for our customers to know about before coming to the landfill. We hope to work with our customers to increase recycling in our county so those materials can be reused. The more we work together, the longer we can keep this landfill operational and open for generations to come!
