Colorado just became the second state to pass legislation to allow plug-in solar; the legislation also encourages the use of meter collars for safe, immediate interconnection.

Plug-in Solar and Meter Collar Adapters are two initiatives that REIA-NM will be focusing on in next year's legislative session, so this is exciting news from our Northern neighbors.

Want to know more? We are planning a webinar series for this summer that will delve into these and other topics like Virtual Power Plants and Permitting Reform. Sign up for our newsletter in the comments or follow us here to stay informed!

Welcome to our newest member Sustainable Engineering LLC.

Sustainable Engineering LLC provides vertically integrated energy management services that they call Energy Infrastructure as a Service (EiaaS) to businesses and organizations desiring to become more sustainable.

They have worked on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and distributed energy resource projects in the agricultural, industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. They are proud to offer EIaaS to their clients including conducting energy assessments and analysis work, managing projects, and engineering.

Their goal is to help clients to reduce their energy; thus, reducing their utility cost, which fits into their overall mission to promote sustainability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and foster clean energy sector growth.

"We will always need to build more generation and transmission. But the smartest near-term path is to squeeze more value out of the system we already have [...] smarter use of existing assets can unlock capacity far faster than new construction alone."

Jigar Shah's unique focus in this op-ed on the importance of front-of-the-meter, community-scale projects is refreshing. We hear a lot about customer-sited resources when it comes to VPPs and distributed energy, but Shah claims that a bigger opportunity is available.

He argues that states should keep four principles in mind to create a supportive policy landscape:

1. Require utilities to share data and identify where the grid needs help.
2. Benchmark costs and risk across ownership models.
3. Apply consistent interconnection and operational standards to all projects.
4. Preserve strong commission oversight and transparency.

Check out the full article, linked in the comments, and let us know what you think of the argument and what we can do here in New Mexico to be ready.
