ALBANY, WE ARE TWO WEEKS AWAY. 🎤🖤
In just two weeks, SmAlbany Poets will officially launch its inaugural season — a youth empowerment and literary arts movement created to give young people in Albany a place to write, speak, create, perform, build confidence, and know that their voices matter.
And today, I’m asking our community for something very simple:
Will you give $1?
Yes. One dollar.
Because movements aren’t always built by one person writing a huge check. Sometimes they’re built by hundreds of people saying, “I believe in this, and I’m willing to put something behind it.”
Over the last four weeks, 20 supporters have already helped us raise $730. That matters. Every single gift matters.
Now imagine what happens if our friends, families, educators, artists, business owners, churches, organizations, alumni, neighbors, and community members each add just $1, $5, $10, or whatever they can.
One dollar at a time, we can move this needle.
Your support helps us provide our young poets with workshops, mentorship, writing supplies, books, meals, performances, travel opportunities, apparel, safe gathering spaces, and experiences designed to help them grow both as writers and as young people.

We have been busy building in this community.
We host free community programming throughout the year, including monthly gatherings and larger intergenerational events that welcome children, parents, elders, artists, writers, musicians, and neighbors. We believe access matters, which is why our community programming is offered free of charge, even as we work hard behind the scenes to fund quality experiences.
And we are not building SmAlbany Poets alone.
We are developing meaningful partnerships throughout Albany, including work with the Albany Area Arts Council and Hilton Garden Inn, while continuing conversations and relationship-building with the City of Albany, Dougherty County School System, Albany State University, and other community stakeholders.
We are building something legitimate. Sustainable. Excellent. And worthy of our young people.
But community work requires community support.
So today, I’m not asking you to do everything.
I’m asking you to do something.
