What a night for our BAMP Youth Chorus!

Last Thursday, students from our Alameda and Sausalito-Marin City programs came together for the first time to sing backup for the incredible Linda Perry at the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival!

It was especially exciting to see kids from our new after-school program at MLK Academy in Sausalito-Marin City take the stage just weeks after launching in August. With only a few weeks to prepare, students from both programs worked hard, learned new music and came together to deliver an amazing performance.

We're incredibly proud of these kids and grateful to Linda Perry, Don Hardy, the Mill Valley Film Festival, California Film Institute, our incredible teaching artists, district partners, and families who made it all possible!

Ready to take your music further? Already know the basics of Ableton Live but want to go deeper? Join us for a 4-week intermediate workshop and sharpen your skills in recording, mixing, and music production. Building on the fundamentals, this session dives into the techniques that take a good track and make it great.

After 4 weeks, you will have hands-on experience with:
• Advanced recording workflows and techniques, including correct microphone placement.
• Layering and arranging multi-track productions with intention
• Mixing techniques, including EQ, compression, reverb, spatial effects, and automation (modulating these parameters to fine-tune your sound)

Workshop Goals
• At least 1 fully mixed and polished track
• Deepen your ear for sound and production quality
• Get and give feedback in a collaborative group setting
• Build a mixing and recording workflow you can take home

Experience with Ableton Live or a DAW required, this workshop picks up where the intro session left off. Laptops and headphones provided (personal gear welcome). Optional: bring stems or project files you’ve already started, we’d love to help you finish them!

We're one month into the school year, and BAMP programs are in full swing!

Nearly 400 students are participating across our Alameda and Sausalito/Marin City sites, spending their afternoons rehearsing, learning instruments, singing, writing songs, and having fun with friends.

In Alameda, there’s a familiar rhythm to the start of the year: students reuniting with friends and teaching artists, returning to their ensembles, beginning new repertoire, and building on the skills they’ve developed over the years.

In Sausalito/Marin City, this first month has been about new beginnings and taking risks. Our newest chapter is taking shape as students explore instruments, find their way into ensembles, learn to write their own music, and build relationships with the teaching artists and mentors they’ll be connecting with throughout the year.

We’re so grateful to the families, teaching artists, partners, donors, and supporters who make this work possible and continue to believe in what young people can accomplish when they have access to music education.

We’re excited to announce that Bay Area Music Project has been selected to receive funding through Summer Now! Granting Initiative!

𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘄! is a national granting and learning initiative designed to expand access to high-quality summer music learning opportunities for young musicians across the El Sistema USA network. The initiative helps organizations strengthen existing summer programs while launching new opportunities that create meaningful learning experiences for young people.
