Deep Creek Lake Lion's Club We Serve! Our mission is to improve the lives of the visually impaired and our local community members, with a special focus on outdoor recreation.

We provide services and support for vision health in our local area. Operate and maintain the McHenry Community Park, with a historical, interpretive trail system; a ball baseball/softball field; a dog park; and other amenities. Our club serves the Deep Creek Lake, MD area and we run two major programs - the Blind Skiers and Blind Skiers which provide visually impaired children with the opportunit

y to experience outdoor recreational activities they may not otherwise have access to. We also provide services and support for vision health in our local area. In addition, we operate the McHenry Community Park, with a historical interpretive trail system, a dog park, and typical park amenities. To support these activities, we hold fundraisers like the Boat Parade and Poker Cruise, as well as accepting donations of donated boats and other recreational gear. At the 1925 International Convention of Lions, Helen Keller challenged the collected delegates to become “Knights of the Blind” and “to make the lives of the blind more worthwhile everywhere by . . . giving them the joy of normal activity.” For a few weeks each year for over three decades, the Deep Creek Lake Lions have done just that by bringing students from the Maryland School for the Blind to the Deep Creek Lake area to enjoy activities that most fully-sighted property owners take for granted.

"Friends of the Garrett County Dog Park" forming
The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club supports the formation of a "Friends of the Dog Park" organization which will take responsibility for emptying the waste bins on a regular basis and providing periodic reports on the condition and suggested maintenance of the park. The Friends of the Dog Park group will receive special recognition and their suggestions will be prioritized for inclusion in the Club's maintenance plan.

Although the new entryway to the dog park has been open for a while, we officially opened it with a nice ribbon cutting ceremony last night. Although the rain scared off the crowds of humans, plenty of dogs were there to enjoy a mud-free entry and exit to the park.

Huge huge thanks to sponsors of the new concrete entryway project who chose to remain anonymous but we know they are true dog lovers!

We'll be launching a new "Friends of the Dog Park" group to coordinate maintenance and provide prioritized suggestions for new features and improvements at the dog park.
Stay tuned for details and please be sure to sign up when you see the announcement so we can form a solid group to help keep the dog park a great place for humans and dogs alike!

It was a beautiful day for a Boat Auction and it was a smashing success! We auctioned off over 70 boats and had almost 100 bidders from 6 different states!

There's a huge list of people and groups to thank for the success of this event:
-Our Auctioneer, Dana Dudley and her crew
-All of our generous boat donors
-The Lions Club "Boat Boyz" who go out and do our pickups (we joke that we should get a film crew and start a reality TV show about some of the crazy boat pickups we do)
-Our local marinas: Bill's Marine Service Deep Creek Marina Patterson Boat Co. and Silvertree Marine - they refer donors to us, load up boats onto trailers and generally go way beyond to help us get these boats
-Huckleberry’s Catering for the delicious breakfast
-And of course our bidders and buyers!
Proceeds from the auction support the work we do in our community and for the visually impaired including (but not limited to) the Blind Skier & Blind Camper Programs, medical assistance to local residents in need, and the maintenance & operation of the McHenry Community Park.

We're always taking donations for the next auction, so let us know if you want to donate yours. We specialize in boats (of all types, sizes and condition) but we'll take snowmobiles, ATVs and any other recreational gear as well!

If you intended to donate this, great, and we're super thankful, but we can't sell it tomorrow at the auction unless we hear something from someone about this boat. Otherwise it's just taking up space and we may end up having to haul it to the dump.
