Our gorgeous Gummy Bear is still waiting for his forever home! 💙

Gummy Bear is a 5-year-old Siberian Husky who’s ready to trade life in our Adoption Wing for a home of his very own. If you’re a Husky lover, you NEED to meet this handsome guy!

At 72 pounds, Gummy Bear is a big, fluffy boy with an even bigger personality. True to his breed, he’s quite the talker and always has something to say!

Gummy Bear would love an active home where he can enjoy walks, hikes, outdoor adventures, and plenty of time exploring with his people. He does well with mellow dogs who match his energy level and would do best in a home without cats or children.

If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy with lots of personality and love to give, Gummy Bear could be your perfect match! ❤️

We’re incredibly honored to receive a grant from the Community Trust Foundation in support of our HARTHelp program!

This funding helps us provide low-cost spay and neuter services to qualifying pet owners throughout Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, making veterinary care more accessible while helping reduce the number of unwanted pets entering shelters. 💙

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Community Trust Foundation and the K&M Leonard Mindful Leadership Fund, Ray & Brenda Morris Community Fund, Frank & Linda Lancelotta Animal Welfare Fund, Gray-C Fund, and the Fund for Garrett County for investing in the health and well-being of pets in our region. Their support helps create lasting change for animals and the families who love them.

"Every meaningful change begins with someone asking, 'What if?'"

Yesterday, we celebrated the organizations receiving grants through the Community Trust Foundation's 2026 Community Grant Program.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, we're reminded that every fund, every nonprofit, and every community project started with a vision of what could be possible. Through the generosity of donors and the dedication of nonprofit leaders, those ideas become action, and those actions strengthen our communities.

This year, $311,000 in grant funding will be invested in projects across our region, supporting organizations that improve lives, create opportunity, preserve what matters, and help our communities thrive.

The best part? Every one of us can play a role. Whether it's making a gift, volunteering your time, sharing your expertise, or championing a cause you care about, community impact begins when people choose to get involved.

Together, we are demonstrating The Power of Community.

Let’s kick off our Friday with an adoption update with twice the love!

Freda Pearl and Fergus were long-term residents in our Cattery, who patiently waited months for their forever homes, and their patience paid off in April, when they were adopted, and found a home together! 💕

Freda Pearl is a sweet senior girl who came to us after living life outdoors, and still had so much love to give! During her stay, she received a much-needed dental to help her feel her best before adoption.

She’s now known as Nezza, and living her best life! She adores her furry brother Fergus, and the two are the sweetest duo!

Fergus was a young kitten when he came to HART, and while he had a slight balance issue that gave him a cute little wobble, it never stopped him from playing, exploring, and loving life! Since going home, his wobble has mostly resolved and is now only really noticeable when he’s waking up from a nap.

Stories like these are such a powerful reminder of what adoption can do for pets in need. We’re so grateful to their amazing adopter for opening their heart and home to both of these special cats. ❤️

Want to help more pets like Nezza and Fergus? Consider supporting HART today! Your donations help provide food, medical care, and second chances for animals still waiting for their happy endings.

It’s Hug Your Cat Day! Celebrated on June 4, today is the purr-fect excuse to shower your feline friend with a little extra love.

We’d love to see your kitties! Drop a photo in the comments and share the cat love with us. 🥰 Pictured here is one of our amazing volunteers sharing some cuddles with one of our Cattery residents!

Here are 5 reasons cat cuddles are the best:
🐾 They can help ease loneliness: Want to spread some love to cats waiting for homes? Join our volunteer team and spend time with our Cattery residents: https://hartforanimals.org/volunteer

😻 They can help you feel calm and relaxed: Spending quality time with pets may help reduce stress and support overall well-being. (Just remember to respect your cat’s boundaries!)

❤️ Purring is pretty amazing: Research suggests a cat’s purr may have healing benefits and can promote relaxation.

🐾 Cat cuddles can help you unwind before bedtime: A cozy cat companion may make relaxing at the end of the day even sweeter.

😺 Physical affection boosts feel-good chemicals: Positive interactions with pets can help release oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, the chemicals linked to happiness, bonding, and relaxation.

Give your cat a little extra love today! And if your feline friend isn’t big on hugs? Head scratches, treats, and quality time count too.

We’re asking for a little extra help for our sweet senior cats!

We’re currently in need of donations of Delectables Lickable Treat Stew Wet Cat Food and Delectables Savory Broths Lickable Cat Treats. These tasty food toppers help encourage our senior cats to eat and keep them happy, healthy, and well-fed while they wait for their forever homes.

One of those seniors is Simba, featured in this video. At 9 years old, Simba found himself searching for a new home after his owner entered a nursing home. Recently, he underwent a dental procedure to help him feel his best, and these special toppers have become a favorite part of mealtime. 😻

Every donation helps us provide extra comfort and care to senior pets like Simba as they wait for the loving families they deserve.

🛒 Shop our Amazon Wishlist to lend a paw to Simba and his feline friends: https://a.co/0ggiWyC4

📦 Donations can also be dropped off at the HART Animal Center during regular business hours.
