🌱 This World Environment Day, we are shining the spotlight on how caring for nature can nurture wellbeing too.
At Metta Day Rehabilitation Centre for the Elderly, clients are able to participate in an indoor gardening programme through a vertical eco-garden that is space-efficient and easy to maintain.
They take part in various activities, from planting seedlings and caring for herbs, and harvesting fresh produce such as chye sim, red leaf spinach, mint, and basil. More than just a gardening activity, the programme supports rehabilitation by encouraging movement, coordination, and daily routines through purposeful, hands-on tasks. Most importantly, it brings joy and a sense of accomplishment when residents see the fruits of their labour!
“Seeing the vegetables grow after caring for them over time makes me very happy. It is rewarding and satisfying to harvest and cook them at home, knowing that they are fresh and grown here. They taste very nice too!”
– Mdm Ng, Metta Rehabilitation Centre
This World Environment Day, we're reminded that even small gardens can make a big impact, nurturing both people and the environment, one plant at a time! 💚
