“Executive”, “Manager”, “Lead” — sounds impressive...but what do these people actually do in a day? 🤔

When you’re exploring careers or applying for your first job, organisational titles can feel like a language of their own.

So we asked our team to explain their roles in the simplest way possible — as if they were talking to a 5-year-old. Turns out, a lot of job titles sound way simpler when put into plain English. 👀

What if your worth isn’t tied to a grand purpose?

We polled our HaloPodcast panel on various topics surrounding the themes discussed across all ten episodes. Today’s hot take tackles the polarity between a life led by a clear sense of direction and one guided by the freedom to explore.

In a world that constantly asks young people what they want to be, it’s easy to feel behind. But perhaps a meaningful life does not require a perfectly mapped-out future. Sometimes, growth begins with curiosity, which often blossoms into discovery.

✨💛 Curiosity and caring deeply may just be two of the greatest superpowers a young person can have.

Our Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) students at Unity Secondary School recently had the opportunity to hear from Adrian from PixelMusica, who shared candidly about his entrepreneurial journey and the realities of building a business from the ground up.

Through stories from his own experience, Adrian gave students a glimpse into the perseverance, commitment, and difficult decisions that often sit behind what others see as “success”.

One message that resonated strongly was the importance of knowing what you stand for. Whether in business or in life, having clarity on your values can help guide the choices you make when the path ahead isn’t always obvious.

And while entrepreneurship is often associated with big ideas and bold moves, Adrian reminded students not to overlook the strengths they already have today: the curiosity to keep learning, and the ability to care deeply about something enough to pursue it.

A big thank you to Adrian for investing your time in our students! 💛

“I realised that there is a power in sharing which helps form this ability to build connections with others.”

Through National Young Leaders Fellowship (NYLF), Arshul’s journey shows how leadership is shaped through lived experiences, reflections and growth.

Starting out in a student-run volunteering group, Hope Givers, where he worked with Mummy Yummy, Arshul was deeply affected by the realities faced by isolated elderly residents. As he stepped into leadership, he initially struggled with being overly rigid, which created a distance between him and his team. Over time, he chose to lead with greater openness and vulnerability - rebuilding trust, strengthening connection and inspiring others to do the same.

Guilty of completing career quizzes for my personality type at 12am. 🫠

Figuring out what we actually want in a job takes more than a quiz — it starts with knowing ourselves and what we actually value.

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a hotel? 🏨

Students from Bukit Batok Secondary School got a firsthand glimpse into the hospitality industry during their Business Visit to JEN by Shangri-La (Orchardgateway Singapore), as part of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) programme!

The session kicked off with an introduction to the hospitality industry and the many roles that keep a hotel running smoothly — from concierge services and housekeeping to guest experience operations. Students then toured different hotel spaces, gaining valuable insights into the day-to-day operations behind creating exceptional guest experiences. ✨

The experience didn’t just stop there. Students also put their creativity and teamwork to the test in a mocktail-making competition! 🍹 From conceptualising their drinks to pricing and pitching them to a panel of judges, they stepped into the shoes of entrepreneurs and hospitality professionals alike. Through this hands-on challenge, they developed a deeper understanding of branding, communication, and customer engagement in a real-world business setting. 🌟

We believe experiential learning opportunities like these empower youths to explore the working world, broaden their horizons, build confidence, and discover new possibilities for their future pathways. 🧩

A huge thank you to JEN by Shangri-La (Orchardgateway Singapore) for 8 years of meaningful partnership in inspiring and investing in our youths! 💛
