"Ang strict naman ng BWP! Daming bawal!"
Just a friendly reminder that BWP is here as a guide only. :) If you are a member of our FB group, Babywearing Philippines, the admins rarely use the word BAWAL when answering queries there. We will always advocate for what is safe and ergonomic since we strongly believe in the benefits of proper babywearing for both baby and the parent/caregiver.
So when we say NOT RECOMMENDED, that doesn't translate to bawal or unsafe agad. It just means na the carrier in question may not give baby and the wearer ideal support/position. Pwede bang magamit with no issues? Yes, probably. Pero if you can have a carrier na mas makakampante ka sa paggamit, wouldn't you want to know about it too?
Kaya ang goal ng BWP is to raise awareness on proper babywearing kasi some parents just haven't had the chance to encounter truly good information on it. Lalo na ngayon sa social media and selling apps na sobrang lakas ng marketing sa carriers na hindi naman talaga ideal or even safe.
When we say that a carrier is UNSAFE, ito na yung carriers na IF gamitin, may heightened safety risk. Casualties may be rare in babywearing but they have happened. Please do not take it against us when we discourage you from using an unsafe carrier. Your baby's safety is and always should be of priority.
With that said, BWP will never force parents to make decisions on how they want to babywear. If you have any questions/concerns on babywearing, we will gladly help you as much as we can. Just be patient with us as we are all volunteers who wear many hats everyday. ;)
We appreciate having you here and hope we can all work together in widening the reach of proper and safe babywearing. 🫶

Ergonomics also apply to YOUR POSTURE!

We often mention how important a good and safe fit is for your baby, but it is equally important that your comfort is prioritized too.
Next time you go out, observe the posture of those using hipseats. More often than not, you'll notice that they are leaning backwards or "naka-liyad" because they have to compensate for the weight that is pushing down on their body.

While hipseats may be used with no issues for babies who can tripod sit consistently and independently, you need to take into consideration how hipseats can affect your posture as well.

Our goal at BWP is to help make babywearing a safe and enjoyable experience for both you and baby always. 🩷

Babywearing doesn't always have to be perfect, but it has to be SAFE ALWAYS.

Sometimes, parents may get confused as to what a "safe fit" really looks like. This infographic emphasizes the importance of having baby's airways free from obstruction and monitoring baby's vitals easily.

Why does safety-testing matter for baby carriers?

1️⃣ QUALITY - Safety-testing is not just about the durability of a carrier, but also ensuring that it's free from harmful substances that it may come into contact with during production. Subpar factories can make cheap carriers because there are no quality & sanitation protocols. All parts of a safety-tested carrier, even down to the stitches, are evaluated to pass testing.

2️⃣ WARRANTY - There may be instances where a safety-tested carrier can have issues (loose stitch, defective buckles, etc) but most of the time, these can be resolved by reaching out to the brand. Some companies even send a brand new replacement as long as it falls within the warranty policy. You won't get this customer service with untested carriers since they usually have a window of only 7 days or none at all.

3️⃣ ACCOUNTABILITY - A "good" baby brand holds themself to a higher standard since they are making products intended for babies. Most of our PH based carrier brands even offer free fit consultations so you can use your carrier correctly and safely.

4️⃣ PEACE OF MIND - We recently posted about the dangers of untested carriers and a parent shared their experience of one such carrier that suddenly unbuckled and baby fell on the pavement. :( Thank goodness baby was brought to the ER immediately and was assessed to be ok but the panic and worry the parents experienced must've been unimaginable. While these instances may be rare, the risks can definitely be reduced with safety-tested carriers.

We fully acknowledge that parents will always have the freedom to choose what is best for their babies and that we are here as guides only.
That is why we do not force our advocacy on anyone but we will always be open to help parents who seek guidance on safe, ergonomic and proper babywearing. 🩷
