𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐳𝐨
It is with great shock and sadness that the staff and Board of Trustees of Community Organizers Multiversity, or COM, learned of the passing of our highly esteemed and much-loved Board Member, Attorney B**g Malonzo. He served on our Board since the time of its inception in 1994 bringing his legal skills and commitment to our community organizing and social justice programs. Ever on call for administrative problems that had legal implications, he enabled us to improve our processes to better serve our urban and rural community partners. COM benefited from his work not only in Metro Manila but also in Mindanao through his work with cooperatives.
He was a stellar member in so many ways. He often dropped by at the office unannounced and would ask, " MAY PIPIRMAHAN BA AKO? MAY KAILANGAN BA TAYONG PAG-USAPAN ?" Then would add, " Ang papel ko ay siguraduhin na hindi kayo makukulong! I want to be sure that you will not be subject to any legal issues, especially in matters regarding personnel and employment." We remember particularly in 2006 when COM was in transition. Atty B**g placed himself on standby at the office, helping us with all the documents needed. That included how to deal with the transition linked to the Department of Labor. Perfect! With him and the team, we managed the process well.
We remember Atty .B**g Malonzo as a leader who led with humility, a mentor, a comrade and a friend - indeed, Lolo to all our staff. We will miss him. We hope that in the coming days and weeks, Jurgette, his family and friends will find strength in prayer and fond memories of COM Board member B**g Malonzo to sustain them through this difficult but also inspiring time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and him.
