That can mean helping a family through an emergency, creating a safe space for children, or simply asking, “How are you?”

This World Humanitarian Day, we celebrate the people who keep showing up for children and communities when they need support most.

Taos-puso kaming nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang nawalan ng mahal sa buhay sa trahedyang naganap sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Kaisa rin kami sa pananalangin para sa paggaling ng mga nasaktan at sa paghilom ng buong komunidad. Nawa’y matagpuan ng mga naulila ang lakas at pag-asa sa gitna ng matinding dalamhati.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang opisyal na imbestigasyon, hinihikayat ang lahat na huwag magbahagi ng sensitibong mga larawan at video, hindi beripikadong impormasyon, o anumang haka-haka. Igalang natin ang privacy at dignidad ng mga biktima at kanilang pamilya, at sumangguni lamang sa mga opisyal at mapagkakatiwalaang pahayag.

Ang mga paaralan ay dapat maging ligtas na espasyo para sa lahat ng bata at kabataan. Nananawagan kami para sa mabilis, patas, at sensitibong imbestigasyon, sapat na psychosocial support sa mga apektado, at responsableng pagbabahagi ng impormasyon. Sa gitna ng dalamhati, pairalin natin ang malasakit, pananagutan, at pagkakaisa upang mapanatiling ligtas ang bawat bata. # # #

A big step forward for young Filipino children 👶🎉

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Systems Act have officially been signed, turning a landmark law into action.

The law strengthens the country's ECCD system by expanding access to health, nutrition, and quality early learning for children from birth to eight years old. It also requires every barangay to establish a Child Development Center, where children aged five and below can learn, play, and receive care from trained ECCD service providers.

Save the Children Philippines is proud to have contributed to the review and refinement of the IRR since last year. We advocated for stronger provisions to ensure children with disabilities are included through reasonable accommodation, accessible environments, and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity.

The work does not stop here. We will continue to provide technical support to national and local government partners to help ensure every child can access quality and inclusive services.

A copy of the IRR is set to be published in the Official Gazette soon.

Merlyn*, 64, has weathered many typhoons in her life, but recovery has never been easy.

The onslaught of and multiple monsoons had not only flooded her community but also destroyed her Abaca, her only means of livelihood.

Through Save the Children and the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's multi-purpose cash assistance program, Merlyn was able to earn an alternative income while rebuilding her livelihood and re-cultivating her crops after the floods.

Almost every day, on the way to school, Lisa (not her real name), age 11, would cry before her mother would have the chance to even say goodbye. ​

She then enrolled in Save the Children’s Catch-up Clubs (CuCs), a reading remediation program for the holistic development of children. A component of CuC is Socio-emotional Learning (SEL) designed to encourage children to express themselves and interact with others confidently through fun games, playful storytelling, and mindfulness exercises. ​

Now, Lisa discovered new friendships and enters the school gates smiling and ready to play. ​
