ASEAN-BAC Philippines continues to strengthen regional and global economic connectivity through partnerships that support trade, logistics, and business growth.

ASEAN-BAC Philippines officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DHL Regional to advance cooperation in trade facilitation, logistics efficiency, and regional connectivity. The partnership aims to support stronger supply chain integration and enhance opportunities for businesses across ASEAN and global markets.

ASEAN-BAC Philippines was represented by Council Member George Barcelon, while DHL Regional was led by Senior Vice President of DHL Express APEC Herbert Vongpusanachai.

As a global leader in logistics and express delivery services, DHL plays a vital role in supporting international trade and supply chain connectivity worldwide. ASEAN-BAC Philippines continues to strengthen its commitment to advancing the creative industries. The team, led by Senior Adviser for Creative Economy Junie del Mundo, met with the UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization headed by Country Representative Teddy Monroy to discuss possible areas of collaboration, strategic initiatives, and concept frameworks aligned with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Also joining the meeting was ASEAN-BAC Philippines’ knowledge partner, PwC, which shared ongoing initiatives and research efforts focused on strengthening the creative economy landscape in the Philippines and across ASEAN.

The ASEAN-BAC 2026 Roadshow advances to Japan, reinforcing regional cooperation and strategic business management.

On May 26, ASEAN-BAC Chair Joey Concepcion, together with ASEAN-BAC Philippines Executive Director Patrick Chua, and Senior Advisers William Dar and James Penaflorida Amparo, the delegation met with JETRO Chairman Ishiguro Norihiko and his team at the JETRO Headquarters following the East Asia Business Forum.

JETRO, the Roadshow partner, expressed strong support for the ASEAN-BAC Philippines 2026 Chairship, particularly in advancing initiatives for MSMEs, startups, and youth entrepreneurship across ASEAN.

ASEAN-BAC Philippines also met with leaders of Keizai Doyukai, or the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, where discussions focused on collaboration with AFSA and identifying viable projects in agritech and cold chain development. Doyukai likewise shared its circular work model as a potential area for future cooperation.

Strengthening collaboration between ASEAN and Japan in advancing resilient and sustainable regional economies, ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Chair Joey Concepcion delivered a keynote address at the East Asia Business Forum held in Tokyo on May 26, bringing together high-level leaders from the business, trade, and policy sectors across ASEAN+3 countries — ASEAN member states, Japan, China, and South Korea. Discussions focused on resilient supply chains, ASEAN–Japan trade and investment, and sustainable energy and logistics systems.

In his message, Mr. Concepcion highlighted Japan’s vital role in strengthening supply chains and food systems, advancing digital transformation, and promoting inclusive growth. He also underscored how continued collaboration with Japan helps create more opportunities for MSMEs in the Philippines.

The forum also explored how the East Asia Business Council (EABC), led by EABC Chair Jay Yuvallos, who is also former ASEAN-BAC Philippines member, can leverage RCEP to help build a resilient and autonomous regional economic zone capable of withstanding external shocks.

Executive Director Patrick Chua, served as a panelist during the discussion on sustainable supply chains. Also present at the event were Senior Advisers for Agriculture and Food Security William Dar, Gil Gonzales, and James Penaflorida Amparo, and Senior Adviser for Digital and AI Josephine Romero.

The East Asia Business Forum was hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) together with Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), and EABC to promote trade and investment between ASEAN and Japan.

In strengthening trade, innovation, and regional industry collaboration across ASEAN, ASEAN-BAC Philippines, represented by Council Member George Barcelon, attended the Tatak Pinoy Exhibit Opening Ceremony on May 25, bringing together trade leaders, industry experts, and public and private sector representatives for the launch of the three-day Expo running from May 25-May 27.

During her speech, DTI Philippines Secretary Cristina Roque highlighted the importance of empowering local industries and strengthening globally competitive Filipino products through the Tatak Pinoy initiative.

During the recent activities in Cebu, Boracay, and Manila, ASEAN-BAC Philippines, led by ASEAN-BAC Chair Joey Concepcion together with Council Members George Barcelon and Michael Tan, continued advancing private sector collaboration across the Philippines and the ASEAN region in support of the country’s ASEAN 2026 Chairship priorities.

Key engagements included participation in the 48th ASEAN Leaders’ Summit, attended by the 11 ASEAN state leaders, and the ASEAN-EU Summit in Cebu, the 2nd ASEAN-BAC Retreat and 106th Council Meeting in Boracay which included the signing of memoranda of understanding with Yovel East and the Indian Chamber of Commerce to strengthen regional connectivity and economic cooperation.

During the 2nd ASEAN-BAC Retreat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between YCH Group Pte. Ltd. and Yovel East Agriventures under the ASEAN Food Security Alliance (AFSA).

The partnership supports the development of smart supply chain hubs, digital logistics systems, and port modernization initiatives aligned with SGConnect and AFSA, helping strengthen food traceability, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve regional agricultural connectivity across ASEAN.

Through the collaboration, YCH will provide expertise in integrated logistics infrastructure and digital supply chain solutions, while Yovel East will facilitate local coordination, stakeholder engagement, and investment opportunities to support agri-industrial growth and sustainable food systems in the Philippines.

As Southeast Asia accelerates toward an AI-driven future, conversations on digital governance and resilience are becoming more critical.

On May 21, ASEAN-BAC Philippines Senior Adviser for Digital and AI, Josephine Romero, joined government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, and academe in a roundtable discussion for “The Evolution of Tech Governance in Southeast Asia: Managing Digital Resilience in the Philippines,” organized by the Tech For Good Institute and the Asian Institute of Management - Rizalino S. Navarro Center for Competitiveness.

The discussion focused on the future of AI governance, workforce transformation, and ASEAN digital cooperation, highlighting the importance of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) in strengthening cross-border digital trade, regional interoperability, and a more inclusive digital economy for MSMEs across Southeast Asian member states.
