GKonomics

GKonomics A social enterprise development platform that facilitates social impact investments for the marginalized, bringing together different sectors of society.

The programs of GKONOMICS are three-pronged:

(1) FACILITATION - we facilitate the engagement of marginalized communities with entrepreneurs and partners. (2) SUPPORT - we support social entrepreneurs through mentorship, networking and connecting them with needed resources. (3) ADVOCACY - we promote social entrepreneurship. GKONOMICS is a partner of Gawad Kalinga in social enterprise development.

Yesterday was a milestone event for our GKONOMICS Scholarship Program.

For the first time, our in-person gathering combined our founders, scholars (graduates and new), the GKON team, and even a sponsor couple from the USA! We got together, broke bread, and shared powerful stories with each other.

We thanked the key person responsible for the start of the GKON Scholarship Program in 2014, Freddie Tinga, who even got to give our scholars the latest update on the Alamatch game, a creative learning tool for the Filipino youth that he and his team from MINT College conceptualized and will soon be part of the KLIKme Program.

The gathering also celebrated “roots” as GKON expanded in 2015 to provide opportunities to those who did not even finish high school through KLIK Mobile Education after seeing the impact of the GKON Scholarship Program.

We were also very happy to welcome and personally thank sponsors Sunny and Jim Rush from Arizona, USA, for their support of our scholars. Even with a flat tire and all, they still made it!

Thank you very much Nadie Tayag, our loving Scholarship Director, for hosting this luncheon and for keeping the GKON Scholarship going strong!

Happy 16th anniversary GKONOMICS!

We are grateful that God brought us together to form GKON in 2009 and whatever we did over the years, missteps and all, have led us to where we are now - a truly transformative and powerful tool of serving God, helping the poor, and building our nation.

Our GKONOMICS Scholars recently had a gathering and we are very proud of them!

From humble beginnings, many are now successful professionals in different fields (education, engineering, performing arts, communications, electro mechanics, infomation tecnology). Soon we will have nursing and HRM professionals too.

Many of them paying forward and are helping in our KLIK Mobile Education program.

Kudos to our GKON Scholarship team led by Nadie Tayag and thank you to all our sponsors and partners for making dreams come true!

Congratulations to Happy Helpers on their upcoming 10th anniversary of serving homes, offices, and mothers in Metro Manila (January 25, 2025)!

From the Happy Helpers founders Maan Sicam and Jo Endaya:
“For the past decade, we have been privileged to service thousands of homes and offices, lives of over 7,000 families and workplaces, bringing not just cleanliness and order but also a sense of care and community. More than the numbers, it is the countless stories of trust, dedication, and love that truly define our journey. We’ve had the honor of touching the lives of over 300 mothers – our beneficiaries who juggle so much and rely on us for community and financial empowerment.”

They are currently seeking sponsors to help make their 10th anniv celebration in January meaningful as they show appreciation to the people who have been integral to their success. Please also consider booking your holiday cleaning with Happy Helpers!

My third Basking article is based on being with young Filipino-Americans from the University of Florida.

KLIKme’s Chika session last weekend gave them opportunity for a meaningful engagement with Filipinos back home. For just an hour or so via Zoom, they got to meet and interact with KLIKme learners. They learned from them while also giving them some hope and excitement.

This reminded me of a homily that Fr. Ben Nebres shared a few years ago:

“Remember that poem 'When the storm passes' that we shared not so long ago? A stanza that moved many was:

We’ll miss the old man/ who asked for a peso in the market/

Whose name we never knew/ who was always at your side/

And maybe the poor old man/ was your God in disguise/

But you never asked his name/ because you never had the time.

If we are to have real change towards a better future, we have to be rooted in the 90% silent and poor among our people. We need to take time to ask their names.”

*** It means a lot to KLIKme learners that people make time for them and want to know them and hear what they have to say. Something as simple as asking their names is truly a big step in effecting the transformation we want in this world. in KLIKme Chikas, more of us are asking their names.
