Enucleation of a Large Dentigerous Cyst — 1.5-Year Follow-Up

A case of a large dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted tooth, seen on the pre-operative panoramic radiograph as a wide radiolucent lesion causing significant bony expansion in the posterior mandible.

The treatment involved surgical enucleation of the cystic lesion together with removal of the associated impacted tooth. Careful management was done to preserve the surrounding structures and allow natural bone regeneration.

After 1.5 years, the follow-up radiograph shows remarkable healing. The previous cystic cavity is now filled with regenerated bone, with improved trabecular pattern and restoration of the mandibular bony contour. This demonstrates how proper surgical treatment, close monitoring, and time can lead to excellent bone recovery even after a large cystic lesion.

Early diagnosis and proper management of odontogenic cysts are important to prevent further jaw expansion, infection, tooth displacement, or possible pathologic fracture.
