Our Inclusive Education Resource Centre (IERC) school students celebrated World Environment Day with a short awareness program, followed by a general clean-up around the school grounds and tree planting activities.

These activities helped teach our students the importance of caring for and protecting our environment. By keeping our surroundings clean and planting trees, they learned that everyone has a role to play in creating a healthier and greener future.

We are proud of our students for taking part and showing that even small actions can make a big difference.

Together, let's continue to look after our environment for future generations. 🌍💚

Congratulations to Bafie, Marisa, and Keran on successfully completing their 65-day rotational service placement through the NCDC Urban Youth Employment Project (Uyep Phase II).

During their placement at Cheshire Disability Services, they supported various program areas, including the laundry, kitchen, grounds maintenance, main unit, physiotherapy, and other general duties.

Through these hands-on experiences, they gained valuable workplace skills, confidence, and practical knowledge.

We thank Bafie, Marisa, and Keran for their hard work, dedication, and positive contribution to the Cheshire team.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the (NCDC) Urban Youth Employment Project (UYEP) Phase II for this valuable partnership and for providing opportunities that help young people develop skills and prepare for future employment.

We wish them every success in their future endeavours.

We had such a fun and unexpected day. Soma kept asking for ear rings for a while now and we are about to go for a special event next week. So we made it happen and took some of our other residents along who wanted ear rings too. We had a suprise visit from Mereani and she joined us holding hands and making this moment extra special. We ended the day with some dress up and lots of excitement for what is coming next.

A Fun Day with the Doulos Hope Team

Cheshire Disability Services was happy to welcome members of the Doulos Hope Ship for a special visit filled with fun, learning, and friendship.

The team spent time with our residents and IERC students, playing games, sharing laughter, and enjoying activities together. Their visit brought smiles and happiness to everyone throughout the day.

The Doulos Hope members also joined the Young Voices meeting and took part in program planning discussions with our young people with disabilities.

It was a wonderful opportunity for connection, inclusion, and friendship, and everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Thank you to the Doulos Hope team for visiting Cheshire Disability Services and making the day so special for our community.

Youth Leadership and Inclusion

Cheshire Disability Services PNG was honoured to be part of the Equal Playing Field (EPF) SRC Leadership Camp recently held at SILAG.

Our team had the opportunity to conduct an engaging disability awareness and basic sign language session with young student leaders from partner schools across the Moresby South Electorate.

The students enthusiastically learned the sign language alphabet, how to spell their names, counting, and even a song in sign language.

As part of the program, the students also visited Cheshire Disability Service where they were taken on a tour of our facility and introduced to the work Cheshire carries out in supporting people living with disabilities in our communities.

It was encouraging to see the students interact with residents and staff while learning more about inclusion, respect, and compassion.

We thank Equal Playing Field for the opportunity to share our work and promote disability inclusion among the next generation of young leaders.

Cheshire Disability Services extends our heartfelt gratitude to the Filipino Association of PNG for their incredible support through the recent “Limitless – A Star Beyond Boundaries” concert, which raised K15,000 for our community.

The Association shared that they are very much aligned with Cheshire Disability Services’ commitment to supporting Persons With Disability (PWD) in Papua New Guinea and are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful cause.

We at Cheshire are truly appreciative of their generosity and partnership.

These funds will go towards providing much-needed services and support for the residents and families within our Cheshire community.

Back to school through FODE

Cheshire Disability Services is proud to support 17 FODE students both staff members and people with disability who are committed to improving their learning through Grade 7 -12 upgrading. This group meets every Friday here at Cheshire under the guidance of Mrs Mercia Arawi Cordinator (Social Science) NCD Centre Gordon's.

Through regular study sessions mentoring and encouragement, students are building confidence and strengthening their reading, writing, and subject knowledge. We are especially happy to share that the students have now submitted their first round of assignments, a strong start that shows what is possible when the right support is in place.

As part of this initiative, Cheshire has been able to support these students. Moreover, the FODE cordinator has issued subjects books to everyone.

We believe that when our community here at Cheshire is empowered through education, it supports independence, inclusion, and better opportunities for the future.

Caring for Young Eyes and Ears in Our Community

This morning, the Cheshire Disability Services (CDS) team, through its Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program, visited Tete SDA Primary School to carry out important ear and eye awareness sessions and screenings.

Over 135 children from Prep to Grade 2 participated in the program, receiving both education and testing to help identify any early concerns.

The Head Teacher Ms Regina Mamando, expressed sincere appreciation to the CDS team for their visit, highlighting how valuable these check-ups are in supporting children’s health and learning.

Cheshire continues to reach out to communities, delivering essential services and making a real difference in the lives of children and families.
