Throughout PNG, women and girls still lack clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to stay well on their period. Many still struggle to take care of themselves each month.

Cultural taboos and stigma are the biggest hindrance to understanding an otherwise normal bodily function fundamental to human existence.

At WaterAid women/girls' sanitation and hygiene are core deliverables in all our programs covering WaSH in Schools, WaSH in Healthcare Facilities, and WaSH in Communities.
Since 2020 WAPNG has delivered menstrual hygiene awareness and infrastructure to schools, HCFs and communities, and supported women's menstrual health initiatives.

Today let us all continue to Educate, Understand, and Stand "Together for a ." It starts with us.

Pari, NCD - water samples taken from a successful 40m borehole in April this year determined the requirement for water quality treatment to ensure WHO-standard drinking water.

We acknowledge the assistance of contractors Earthpro Ltd (drillers) and Hanebuka (construction), along with Pari Water Services through the Motu Koita Assembly.

Water supply will initially cover two water kiosks and nearby taps, with later expansion covering other water points.

This current project is funded by the Australian NGO Cooperation Program through Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

💧 Pari Village Water Project: Update 💧

POM: WaterAid PNG met with community leaders from the Motu Koita village of Pari, to provide a status update on the water supply project there. After ongoing setbacks we have diverted from the original design to feed off the city water supply system and gone with a standalone bore water supply as an immediate fix.

Fresh water has been struck 40m below ground. We are now in the technical analysis phase, which involves:
▪️ Water quality testing (WHO standards), with treatment options considered
▪️ Borehole yield to determine scope of distribution. Additional boreholes are being planned.
▪️Reticulation pipe evaluation to expand for effective distribution

These steps are critical to ensuring the water system meets the supply and demand ratio while maintaining longevity of the water source.

We acknowledge the community’s concerns regarding delays, and are just as eager as they are to start accessing water, with the continued support from Motu Koita Assembly and our State and development partners.

A sincere thank you to all our partners and stakeholders for contributing to the successful regional launch of the PacFresH2O Programme in Port Moresby.

The launch reflected the strong partnership and shared commitment towards strengthening climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems across Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

GIZ Pacific extends its appreciation to the governments of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, the Pacific Community (SPC), WaterAid Papua New Guinea, Live & Learn Solomon Islands, The German Embassy in Canberra, European Union and all stakeholders who made this important milestone possible.

We now look forward to the upcoming country launch at Somare Memorial Park, Rabaul District, East New Britian, on Monday, as we continue working together to strengthen inclusive and climate-resilient WASH services for communities across the region.
