Equal Playing Field

Equal Playing Field We use sport to promote gender equality and end violence against women in Papua New Guinea and around the world.

Equal Playing Field was founded in 2011 by Adam Everill (Australia) and Jacqui Joseph (PNG), after they met at the British Council ‘s Global Changemakers Forum. Since this time, EPF has grown and developed into a fully operational not-for-profit organisation, registered with the Australian Charities and Not For Profits Commission (ACNC) in Australia and with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA

) in PNG. EPF is founded on the belief that violence against women is preventable and that frank and open discussions about gender equality and respectful relationships during adolescence have the power to stop violence against women before it happens by changing attitudes and behaviours that allow violence against women to occur. EPF’s understanding of Violence Against Women is gender based and informed by the World Health Organisation’s Ecological Model , which states that violence against women occurs because of a complex interaction of multiple risk factors at an individual, relationship, community and society levels. All of these risk factors are enabled by widespread gender inequality that substantially increases women’s vulnerability to violence. While Equal Playing Field programs and advocacy initiatives reach men, women, boys and girls, the organisation has a specific focus on working with men and boys to define healthy, positive and non-violent expressions of masculinity that create stronger, safer, happier communities. To achieve this, EPF uses sport of all kinds to engage young people and educate communities in conversations about gender equality, respectful relationships and violence against women.

Equal Playing Field is proud to be running our “Hausman na Hausmeri stori: A Rite of Passage Curriculum” with the incredible students at Badihagwa Technical Secondary School!

In PNG, our Haus Man and Haus Meri are sacred spaces for community. This ongoing program honors those rich traditions while equipping our youth with modern tools for gender equality, mutual respect, and healthy communication. By blending tradition with progress, we are supporting the next generation to grow into champions of a safer, more respectful society.

The Equal Playing Field (EPF) SRC Leadership Camp, held from 30 April to 3 May at the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance, was proudly supported through generous in-kind contributions from Brian Bell Group.
The sponsorship played an important role in enhancing student engagement activities and recognising student advocacy and leadership achievements throughout the camp. Contributions were used to support participant engagement, partner appreciation, and school award presentations, helping foster motivation, inclusion, and a positive leadership experience for all participants.
Goodie bags were provided to 23 student participants representing EPF’s five partner schools:
St Francis Primary School
Koki Primary School
Kaugere Junior High School
Kila Primary School
Bavaroko Junior High School
The support from Brian Bell Group significantly strengthened the delivery of the SRC Leadership Camp by promoting inclusive participation, recognising valued partners, and celebrating student leadership accomplishments. EPF sincerely appreciates Brian Bell’s contribution to the success of the program and its continued investment in youth leadership development.

Super proud of our students from Kaugere Junior High School ✨️💯

Four students from Kaugere Junior High School proudly represented Papua New Guinea at the “Violence Ends With Us” Summit in Antipolo City, Philippines, joining 150 young leaders from across the region to stand up for the rights and safety of children on

Over three intensive days, the students engaged in discussions and solution building on ending violence against children, including online exploitation, harmful practices, and the role of communities and institutions in protection and prevention.

Supported by UNICEF PNG, Equal Playing Field , and their teachers, these young leaders showed confidence, courage, and a powerful commitment to change.

“I am more aware of gender-based violence and child abuse now… I have learnt a lot,” shared KJHS student Alexandra.

They have returned home not just inspired, but ready to become peer educators and advocates in their communities.

for every child💙
