Sven Olsen's Brutal Canadian Love Saga in Concert Sunday 2-Nov-2025
Our Next Meeting and Concert is Sunday, 2 November 2025
Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba St Starts at 4:15PM

Concert - 5:45 – 6:30 PM
Featuring:
Sven Olsen's Brutal Canadian Love Saga in Concert

Sven Olsen's Brutal Canadian Love Saga is Wellington's most obscure chamber pop ensemble. They perform songs about the bakers, the fakers, the risk takers who inhabit these shaky isles.

If your hobbies include boogie boarding over the Huka Falls or performing Kung Fu atop an Upper Hutt pizza joint, or just quietly reading, this shows for you. Sven’s creativity is sparked by the songwriting genius of Nigel Beckford and more than seventy members who have contributed to their collective vision of hilarious gloom.

Guitars, harmony singing, strings: “These songs often have a delicate touch, a lightness of melody and a sympathetic delivery which casts them as love songs to a nation, not a cruel critique.” – Graham Reid in Elsewhere.

He has performed in the UK, Australia and Aotearoa and releases original music under his own label. He performs regularly in and around Wellington at private functions and civic events.
