Whakapapa Wānanga | Weekend One 🌿

What a special first weekend of our Whakapapa Wānanga series. One down, four more weekends to go!

We were fortunate to have Richard Niania join us on the first night, sharing his knowledge and giving us an insight into iwi-level pūrākau, ngā maunga, ngā waka and different parts of our whakapapa. A mihi to Wikitoria Hauraki for taking our whānau on a hikoi around the pā and sharing kōrero tuku iho connected to some of our significant sites. Two whānau full of knowledge and kōrero. Ngā mihi nui ki a kōrua.

And to our Pā Haka kaiako rōpū, you are magic! What an exciting haerenga you have kicked off for our whānau. ❤️

Thank you to all the whānau who came along this weekend. We hope you returned home with a few more kōrero tucked into your kete.

We’ll also be setting up a Facebook group soon for whānau to keep up with pā haka practices, kōrero and learning, so you can continue practising and learning in your own time.

Our Takiwā representatives for Wairoa Taiwhenua, Sarayde Tapine and Jess King, have been newly elected to represent our five marae:

Huramua
Ruataniwha
Takitimu (Waihirere)
Hinemihi
Tawhiti A Maru

They have already attended their first trustee hui and a Māori governance workshop, getting underway with the mahi ahead.

WHAKAPAPA O TAKITIMU MARAE 🌿🔺🔻

Tēnā koutou e te whānau! Our next wānanga is all about the pūrākau of Takitimu Marae, sharing kōrero, knowledge and waiata together.

📅 Friday 2 October, 5pm - Sunday 4 October, 12pm, followed by four fortnightly wānanga.

🍽️ Bring a plate to share for kai on Friday night.

🎶 Saturday evening: Pā Haka practice for any uri wanting to learn our waiata and prepare for the Pā Haka festival hosted at Takitimu Marae in November. More details to come!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages and whānau are welcome. This is a great kaupapa to bring your tamariki to. 🌱Whether you know the kōrero or you’re just keen to learn, nau mai!

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING - SATURDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2026

E te whānau, Te Wairoa Tapokorau Whānui Trust will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) to consider and vote on proposed amendments to the Trust Deed. Please see the attached pānui for further information regarding these amendments.

Voting will be open to eligible Registered Adult Members, with further voting information to be provided directly to members.

Devonshire Mogford has been appointed as the independent Returning Officer for this process and all voting and election-related queries can be sent directly to [email protected].

We encourage all eligible members to have their say and take part in this important kaupapa for the future of our Trust.

E te whānau, we'd love to see as many of our people involved as possible in helping shape the future of our marae and hapū.

A Special General Meeting for Te Wairoa Tapokorau Whānui Trust will be held on Saturday, 26 September 2026, where Adult Members will have the opportunity to vote on proposed amendments to the Trust Deed that will help strengthen the Trust's governance and support its future direction. To be eligible to vote at the SGM you must be a registered adult member before the membership register closes on Friday 07 August 2026.

If you haven't registered yet or your contact details have changed, please make sure you register or update your details by Friday, 7 August 2026 so you're eligible to vote and receive your voting papers.
