🏉💛🖤 GIRLS RUGBY DOMINATES! 🖤💛🏉
A huge congratulations to our Wairoa College Girls Rugby team who delivered an outstanding performance, defeating a determined and gutsy Tamatea side 74–10 tonight.
Our wāhine toa played with skill, passion, and pride, showcasing the hard work they have been putting in throughout the season. While the scoreline was impressive, credit must also go to Tamatea for their resilience and never-give-up attitude.
A special shout-out to Coach/Manager Amy Pearse and Coach Micheal Pickering for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to developing our girls both on and off the field.
We are incredibly proud of this team and the way they continue to represent Wairoa College with mana.
Ka mau te wehi, girls! Keep up the awesome work! 💪🏉💛🖤

💔🖤WAIROA COLLEGE MOURNS THE LOSS OF DOUG SNELLING 💛💔
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of former teacher, colleague, and friend, Doug Snelling.
Doug dedicated 27 years of service to Wairoa College, teaching from 1988 until his retirement in 2015. During that time, he made an extraordinary contribution to the lives of countless students, staff, whānau, and members of our wider community.
Many have described Doug as a legend, and it is a title he earned with distinction. He was an outstanding educator, a brilliant coach, and an exceptional musician. More importantly, he was a genuinely kind, humble, and caring person who touched the lives of so many.
Doug’s warmth, humour, and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through the generations of students he inspired and the community he helped shape.
Teachers, staff, whānau, former students, and our extended Wairoa College community will miss him dearly.
He will always be remembered as “the one and only Doug Snelling.”
Rest in peace, Doug — and may there always be some blues music playing in the background.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Doug’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. 🖤💛💔

WAIROA KI TE AO: Wairoa midwives Tūngāne Kani and Allison Williams are currently in Portugal at an international midwifery conference where they have a poster presentation about some of the work they are doing to revitalise Māori cultural practices within the birthing space and improve outcomes and experiences for hapū māmā.
