Timaru Navy Cadets - TS Royalist

For Boys & Girls who are 13 years of age or started high school. Our training centre is located at 50 South Street, Timaru.

Parade night is Tuesday 1845 (6.45pm) to 2115 (9.15pm) during the school term The NZ Cadet Forces is for boys & girls aged 13 years to 20 years of age. The training curriculim follows a calendar year so the normal recruiting time is at the start of the school year but you can join at any time during the year. Timaru Navy Cadets is the Navy Flavour of New Zealand Cadet Forces. We are the new kids on the block locally and still building our presence. You should consider being part of this exciting opportunity, you have so much to gain by joining us. With the Timaru Air Cadets and Timaru Army Cadets we complete the Tri-Corps package NZCF offers. The New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF) is a disciplined, uniformed organisation which provides military-style leadership, personal development and operational training to persons aged between 13 and 20 years old. Cadet Forces provides personnel with a four-year training curriculum, while a number of unit, area and national courses provide further experience and qualifications in specific training areas. It is jointly funded by the Ministry of Defence and four national recognised Civilian Support Organisations. The NZCF is a non-profit organisation for the youth of New Zealand and their youth leaders, and adheres to a strict Code of Conduct.

Last weekend cadets from Timaru and as far north as Christchurch gathered at the Raincliff Youth Camp to compete in Top Squad. A weekend long event hosted by Ashburton Cadet Unit (ACU) and staffed by Officers from the attending units. A great opportunity for cadets to work together and learn new skills. Great job everyone.

We were invited to have a look over the brand new deepwater factory freezer fishing vessel TAKAPO. She has been in Timaru a few weeks and is having some finishing touches done before undergoing her shake-down voyage. Built in Turkey at the Tersan Shipyard this vessel is so much more than a "fishing boat". From her almost futuristic bridge, down to her state of the art processing plant, this vessel is a well designed and well constructed engineering wonder! Our sincere thanks to our capable tour guide for looking after us during our visit.

New Zealand Cadet Forces can offer so much to our young people. The Royal New Zealand Navy has an annual Sea Immersion Activity for Cadets, they spend a week getting an insight into what service life might be like if they are interested in a career in the Navy. A great opportunity that is only available to Cadets. Thank to the Royal New Zealand Navy & New Zealand Cadet Forces for making this a reality.

First night of the term and what a night it was. We had two recruits take the Cadet Forces Oath, congratulations to our newest Ordinary Cadets. The privilege of presenting them with their Unit Patch was given to Ordinary Cadet Patra. We then promoted him to Able Cadet, a very deserving promotion to a capable member of the Unit. BZ everyone.

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of being presented with our Royalist velcro badges by a gentleman who served on HMNZS Royalist, Peter Robinson. The visit was arranged through the local branch of the Royal New Zealand Naval Assn. We made sure Peter got a badge for himself, back when he was serving the ships badge was only seen adored on the vessel or at the gangway, not on a sailors uniform. Thanks for visiting us Peter and thanks for your stories from your time in the Navy and on board Royalist. We have some other important unit events planned that we can't wait to share with you.

On Wednesday June 24th we had the pleasure of a visit from the Commandant of Cadet Forces. All Timaru Units, 15 Squadron, TimCU and ourselves gathered at CBay to have a combined Swim Test evening so the Commandant could meet all Timaru cadets at one activity. Wing Commander Creedy ensured he spoke to as many individuals as he could. At the conclusion of the evening the Commandant conducted some promotions, a real honour to have the Commandant present you with your new rank! Able Cadet McColl was promoted to Acting Leading Cadet, BZ to everyone who received new rank. Thank you Sir for making the time to visit us.

What better time of year to try out cold water survival suits than during winter!

It was a lovely sunny day by the sea on Sunday as the Cadets put on their suits, some needing assistance in the process!

Our Navy Cadets are fortunate to have contacts in the local maritime community who ensure items that have expired, been decommissioned or would otherwise be disposed of come our way.

It's not every day you get to inflate a Life Raft, try out cold water floatation suits and have lunch in a 25 person raft!

This is some of the out of the ordinary things our Cadets get to do! We are accepting new recruits now, so come along and see if TS Royalist is for you.

Cadets from TS Royalist, 15 Squadron ATC and TimCU attended a combined shoot today. Great to see marksmanship skills improve during the day, by the conclusion everyone was chuffed with their results. Good coaching aways pays off in helping cadets grow their skill base. BZ everyone. We acknowledge the Seadown Shooting Complex for allowing us to use their excellent facility, thank you.
