Timaru Air Cadets

The final parade of this term saw our cadets carrying out small leadership/teamwork tasks including Search & Rescue, Improvised stretcher Building with a transfer to a more secure stretcher for obstacle navigation, & no teamwork activity is complete without using all hands to make a ratpack hot chocolate.

As we take a break for the school holidays we have a few cadets attending area leadership courses. As an officer group we wish them luck & look forward to seeing their leadership potential on their return.

Last term we held a shooting weekend where all of our cadets got to work on their marksmanship principles. Each of our cadets were able to improve their scores from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday the cadets shot at practice targets while working on their shooting techniques.
Sunday was spent shooting competition style serials which is what we normally shoot.

This National Volunteer Week, we recognise and thank the dedicated volunteers who make the New Zealand Cadet Forces possible. Across the country, our officers, instructors, support staff, committee members, and adult volunteers generously give their time, skills, and experience to create opportunities that have a lasting impact on young New Zealanders.

Their commitment goes far beyond weekly parades and activities. Through leadership, mentorship, and service, they help develop confident, capable, and community-minded young people.

As our organisation continues to grow and provide opportunities for more youth across New Zealand, the contribution of volunteers remains as important as ever. Whether sharing professional expertise, supporting behind the scenes, or mentoring the next generation, there are many ways to make a difference and become part of the NZCF community.

To all of our volunteers, thank you for the countless hours you contribute and for the difference you make every day. Your passion and dedication are at the heart of the New Zealand Cadet Forces, and we are proud to celebrate and acknowledge your service during National Volunteer Week.

Recently Timaru Air Cadets held a flying day at the Rangitata Airfield. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves with everyone having some hands on flying time. Many thanks to Russell for accommodating us and providing excellent flying weather and some additional aircraft to check out.

Following Anzac Day, the Air Cadets hosted the Navy and Army Cadets for a combined shoot. Near the end of the day, each unit selected their two top cadets for a 'competition shoot'. I'm happy to report that Timaru Air Cadets won the round with the other two units not far behind.

Anzac Day brought all three Cadet Units South Canterbury units together to help the local RSA's commemorate this important day. By the end of the day there were plenty of tired cadets (and officers), with some of us having attended four services. Our cadets attended services at Timaru, Waimate, Geraldine and Rangitata air field.

Last Friday cadets from Timaru Air Cadets, Navy Cadets and Army Cadets joined the local RSA to help with their Poppy Day selling.

Last term a group of senior cadets from 15 SQN attended an activity that involved testing their teamwork, navagation and survival skills.
The 2 day tramp took them into the Camp Stream hut in the Tekapo area.
With views that were spectacular, and the weather closing in on their way out they were lucky to only get their feet wet during the planned stream crossings where they were taught and executed with safety in mind.
