Unflinching, evocative and starkly beautiful, sloer’s music is to be experienced as much as listened to. Prepare to feel stuff and to have it sit with you a while.

Founded in the alpine town of Wānaka, sloer began as a stripped-back collaboration between Sophie Askin and guitarist Jacob Smith, crafting sparse, spacious live sets where every note carried weight. The band grew with the addition of pianist Sophie Omer-McWalter, whose layered playing added depth and cinematic tension. The sound took on new dimensions with the arrival of drummer Mark Orbell and bassist Aaron Hosking - bringing pulse and momentum, while Mark’s backing vocals added harmony with emotional reach.

Now embodying the quiet confidence of a outfit sure of its identity, sloer has landed exactly where a great band needs to be on the cusp of delivering its debut album. Everything in its place. No waste. No grand gestures. Just expertly crafted songs imbued with an unnameable quality that sees them hit home, every time.

See them live at Artworks Theatre tomorrow, Friday the 9th October. Tickets available online from https://www.undertheradar.co.nz/gig/104573/sloer.utr or on the door.

Time to hunt out and tune up your bikes, helmet, bright outfits, lights, and a speaker!

It’s that time of year again when the streets light up and the cars slow down, with cyclists of all genres hitting the streets in an array of colours and beats.

This community event is all about getting people riding, visible and confidant so even if you don’t ride all the time you can still have a blast! The ride will start at Artworks and end at Artworks for our signature post-ride boogie.

Meet at 6:30pm at Artworks Courtyard for vegan sausages and other food (bring your wallet!) We’ll have face painting and plenty of time to mingle with the cycling community before we set out, close to sunset. The party goes until 11pm!
