Last night we celebrated our 30th Anniversary at Waiheke Island Toastmasters, with many members still on winter break it was still a great turn out and we had a special guest with Sarat Rajan our Area Director.
We are very lucky to still have 2 founding members in our club - that’s 30 years of dedication to lifelong learning.

A hearty supper was shared with a couple of bottles of 0% bubbles to celebrate the occasion.

There is a lot of celebration at Toastmasters.
One of my favourite celebrations is when we welcome a new member, and especially when we watch them as they present their first speech that we call the “IceBreaker”.
Neil Smith recently joined Waiheke Island Toastmasters and tonight he delivered his first speech!! Well done Neil, congratulations on a great job and welcome again to the club. Looking forward to many more speeches from you….

This week one of our members delivered an outstanding first 20mins of what will be a powerful 45-60 minute keynote delivered at an offshore event later in the year.
She has been working towards this with the help and support of the club, gradually speech by speech layering her skills and perfecting her delivery.

Some people join toastmasters just to better themselves at public speaking, some for the camaraderie and fun that we enjoy (plus the snacks) every meeting and some people join with a purpose in mind.

What would your reason be?

Meetings every second Monday at the Catherine Mitchel Centre - 6:45 - 8:45 PM.

Our next meeting will be somewhat different, a read-aloud, building layers, building skills, building confidence.

Next meeting, Monday July 20th - hope to see you there!

At Toastmasters its not just about having fun, its also rewarding.
I am happy to share I have completed Level 1 of the pathway which is the platform that we use to keep track of our achievements.

Many years ago I completed the old competent communicator and competent leader programmes. It’s great to see Toastmasters enhancing and digitising the programme and giving us a chance to redo our icebreakers. 🙂
