We're celebrating Samoan language this week and luckily for us, we have our beautiful Samoan princess & financial mentor Susana as our teacher!

Today's phrase is all about taking action and something we say to our clients on the daily....

"Se'i fuafua le tatoi paketi" which means "Let's plan our budget" - and we've included a video so you can practice your pronunciation!

💰 Interest

📌 What it is:
Interest is the cost of borrowing money – or the reward for saving it.

⚖️ Two sides of interest:

💳 Interest you pay:
On loans, credit cards, and overdrafts.

🏦 Interest you earn:
On savings accounts and term deposits.

📈 Why it matters:
High-interest debt grows quickly.

Paying only the minimum payment keeps debt around longer.

🧾 Example:
Borrow $1,000 on a credit card → interest keeps adding up until it’s fully paid.

💡 Money tip:
Focus on paying off high-interest debt first to save money in the long run.

While the sun is out and the heaters are off, many of us in the Far North see our power bills drop☀️ Here’s a little secret to help your budget: keep paying that winter amount anyway.

If you can tuck away an extra $5, $10, or $20 a week into your power account now, you’re building a "winter buffer." When the cold hits and the bills jump back up, you’ll have a credit waiting for you 💰

It’s about making things easier for "Winter-You" before the chill sets in🍦

Even with the best budgeting plans, this time of year can be a lot to get through🎄

The shops are calling, the "Buy Now, Pay Later" ads are whispering, and it’s so easy to tell ourselves, "I’ll just deal with the debt in January."

But here is what we don’t say enough: Christmas is hard work. The emotional weight of trying to keep the peace while keeping the bank account balanced is more than most of us bargain for 😬

If you are feeling stretched, you aren't doing anything wrong. Remember:

1. You aren’t a "bad" parent or friend if you can’t buy everything - handmade gifts often mean the most.

2. Saying "no" to a gift you can’t afford is an act of love for your future self.

3. Thank you's from family doesn't pay the bills—we think they'll understand that too.

One question to ask yourself today: "Will January-me feel grateful for this purchase, or pressured by it?"

Whilst we're closed over the Xmas period, we'll be up & running again on Tues 6th Jan if you need some budgeting support in the new year.
