For our festive final meeting of 2025 we were visited by Andrea Carson on behalf of Tiwai (the New Zealand Aluminium Smelter, or NZAS).
Did you know? They are only aluminium smelter in NZ, supply 19 countries, and are our country's 10th largest export.

Outside of their operations it was fantastic to learn more about their community involvement. They've donated over 2.5 million dollars through their community development fund, and that's not including their sponsorships and additional donations, as well as hands on involvement. They're doing some fantastic work down there and it's exciting to see what's coming up next in 2026.

If you'd like to learn more about what Tiwai is getting up to check out their website: www.nzas.co.nz

On Wednesday the Waikiwi Lions had the pleasure of being able to host our 2nd World Festival of Magic "NZ" show at the Civic Theater in Invercargill. It was an absolute joy seeing so many excited faces come through (over 570 attendees!) and be able to experience wonderous magic on stage, as well as a meet and greet with the magicians themselves after.

Thank you to all who made this event possible. It is a fantastic experience for our youth and we're looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Did you know?

Lions Clubs across New Zealand collect Kantabs — those little aluminium caps & lids you’d normally toss away..

All proceeds from this project go directly to Kidney Kids NZ, helping children and their families living with kidney disease.

Started back in 2002/03 by the Levin Waihopehu Lions Club, Kantabs is still going strong thanks to your support and those tiny tabs that add up to big impact!

Next time you pop open a can or bottle, save the tab or lid — it could change a life.

And message us for your nearest dropoff point!

At our September tea meeting we had the pleasure of hearing from John Taylor on behalf of Safer Walking, a Land Search and Rescue initative.

John demonstrated the effectiveness of the tools on hand, as well as educating members about the 48 pendants currently being used in Southland, with thousands more in use nation-wide. These pendants and the tools displayed in the photos below have proven invaluable in helping locate individuals that have gone missing or gotten lost.

You can learn more about this brilliant initiative on the Safer Walking website; https://saferwalking.nz/

We would also like to acknowledge and thank the 202F District Governer Shona Cook for coming along and sharing her company, laughter, and thoughts for her term ahead.
