It is with great difficulty that we announce the immediate cessation of our free Tech Program for Seniors (65+) in Invercargill and Bluff.

For the past few months, it has been an honour and a privilege to serve our community, providing completely free technology assistance to those aged 65 and over. This program proved what we suspected: there is an absolute, vital need for this service. The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive, and we know this work makes a real difference.

However, due to multiple factors, most notably recent funding cuts in certain areas, the program is no longer sustainable for CB Tech NZ or for the wonderful people we employ to run it. We have had to make the difficult decision to pause the program to create a more viable long-term solution.

We were flabberghasted with the results that our report came up with in numbers since our startup in May 2025 - If you're interested:

We conducted 244 total home visits.

We reached 114 unique homes, with some clients receiving assistance up to 6 times.

We handled 496 direct phone calls offering remote support.

We were very intentional with our marketing ensuring that we targeted the most vulnerable and potentially isolated seniors within our community and we are sorry if you or your loved one didn't know about or could not access our services.

Thankyou so much to our friends at Age Concern (Invercargill), West Invercargill Health, Awarua and all the amazing organisations that worked alongside us!

We promise that this is not goodbye. Now that we know the critical need for this service, we are committed to finding a new structure. We will be back bigger and stronger than ever, ready to support our seniors once again.

Ready to use your passion for people and technology to help your community? Community Bridge Technologies (CB TECH NZ), a local non-profit, is seeking a compassionate and driven Programme Coordinator to join our team FOR *ONE MONTH* (With a possibility of future work). This isn't just a job—it's a chance to be on the frontline of our mission, empowering senior and vulnerable citizens by helping them navigate the digital world.

This is a flexible, part-time role for approximately 20 hours a week, and you'll report directly to the Programme Delivery Manager. While you'll enjoy the flexibility of working from home, a key part of your job will be visiting clients in their homes throughout Invercargill to provide one-on-one support.

Your day-to-day will be dynamic and rewarding. You'll be running workshops, helping us organize our service backlog, and assisting with administration. The hours are flexible, but you must be available to answer inbound calls between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday to Friday. This is a perfect role for someone who needs to schedule their work around school hours.

What We're Looking For

We need someone with the personality, passion, and drive to make this role a success - then we are able to get more funding. While technical skills are helpful, your kindness and patience are what truly matter. We're seeking a person who is:
A natural people person: You're empathetic and genuinely enjoy helping others.
Driven: You have the initiative to take ownership of your work and help our programme grow.
Organized: You can manage your own schedule, prioritize tasks, and assist with administration.

Essential Requirements

A clear police background check.
Your own reliable transport (mileage will be paid). 🚗
A personal laptop and cellphone. 💻📱
A professional and well-presented demeanor.
Due to current funding, this is an initial one-month contract with a strong possibility of extension for the right person.

We were absolutely delighted to be part of the recent Free Haircuts and Services for Southlanders Day, extending our commitment to the Invercargill and Bluff communities beyond just IT!

At CBTech NZ, we believe in empowering our senior citizens by providing free IT services throughout the year, helping them stay connected, learn new skills, and navigate the digital world with confidence. But community support goes beyond technology, and this special event was a wonderful opportunity to contribute in a different way.

The atmosphere was truly heartwarming, seeing so many organisations come together to offer essential services and make a real difference in people's lives. It was inspiring to witness the joy and gratitude as individuals received much-needed haircuts, health checks, and a variety of other support.

While we were there with our tech support, our presence was a testament to our dedication to the well-being of our local seniors and the broader community. We're proud to support initiatives that strengthen the fabric of Invercargill and Bluff.

A huge thank you to the organisers of the Southern Free Haircuts and Services Day for putting on such an impactful event!
