🥦 Super Connect Kai for Seniors

Super Connect is a wrap around service INCLUDING FREE FOOD SUPPORT and is for those who live in Hamilton, aged 65 or over and are finding things a bit tough at the moment. The initiative has been such a huge success that demand has far exceeded expectations. Because so many people have signed up, the team is now offering only the fortnightly option - that’s 8 food packages over 16 weeks. Unfortunately, the weekly (8-week) option has had to be dropped for now, as the service is so over-subscribed - for every two people who ask to join, they can currently only support one. It’s a real testament to how valued and needed this service is in our community.

📣 Your rights, your records: visit konae.org.nz 📲 If government, faith-based or other organisations have ever been involved in decisions about your guardianship or care, and you would like your records from those times, Kōnae: My Records Guide is a website that can help.

Kōnae has a map of places people may have stayed and details of the record holders for those sites. It has an easy-to-use online form for contacting record holders and requesting records, and suggestions for support during the process.

Kōnae was created in response to a recommendation from the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care and was developed by Citizens Advice Bureau alongside survivors and people with lived experience. It is independent of the Government.

If you need a copy of your birth certificate you can:
💻Apply online using the Certificates Service https://certificates.services.govt.nz/
📱Call the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) on 0800 22 52 52
✉️Apply by post using the paper application form - BDM93B Request for New Zealand Birth Certificate
🗣Order your birth certificate in person in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington or Christchurch where there are BDM offices. You'll need photo ID and generally have to book an appointment first.

A standard (plain) birth certificate costs $33 and a decorative birth certificate (forest or beach scene) costs $35. You need to pay by debit or credit card. For those who don't have one of these this sometimes means buying a Prezzy Card, which is a Visa gift card and can be used like a credit card.

It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for a birth certificate to be issued.

Tertiary education can be expensive, but there are a number of options for getting help with course fees and expenses.

📌Fees Free
If you are starting tertiary study or vocational training, you may be eligible for 'Fees Free' - a fund for first-time learners. From 1 January 2025, the Fees Free fund applies for the final year of study or final two years of work-based training, and you may be able to claim the cost of your fees up to $12,000.

📌Scholarships
There are a wide range of scholarships available. These include scholarships for Māori, Pasifika, and postgraduate students as well as students enrolling at specific tertiary education providers or students enrolling to study specific disciplines.

📌Student Allowance
A Student Allowance can help towards your living costs while you study and doesn't have to be repaid. This support is income-tested. It will depend on your income and will generally also depend on your parents' income if you're under 24 with no children.

📌Student loan
You can apply for an interest-free student loan to cover fees, course-related costs and living costs. Interest will be charged if you move overseas and you will have to repay your loan once you earn over the income threshold or move overseas.

There are also options for free trades training and zero fees at Southern Institute of Technology.
