Rainbow Hub Waikato

Rainbow Hub Waikato Rainbow Hub Waikato is a non-profit organisation that began as “Waikato Q***r Youth” in 2005.

Rainbow Hub Waikato is a non-profit organisation that creates spaces and works alongside communities to embrace, celebrate, and support diversity and identity, where all people thrive and feel empowered to be themselves. We started as a small group of people passionate about supporting young people to have a community that affirms their identities. In May 2021 we restructured our organisation to r

ecognise and grow the support we provide for rainbow folks of all ages and Rainbow Hub Waikato was created to reflect our communities. Today we support people across the Waikato and are in an exciting period of growth as we establish and collaborate on new projects and services. Enabled by a passionate group of employees, volunteers and community members, Rainbow Hub Waikato is focused on offering hope to people of all ages. We strive to empower spaces for people to celebrate who they are, through positive, identity-affirming community building, fun and friendships. Please note that other than scheduled groups, drop-ins, and events, our opening hours are by appointment only.

Living with Mana 🖤❤️🤍

Nau Mai, Haere Mai and welcome to our new Maatauranga Maaori & Takataapuitanga series, hosted by Rainbow Hub Waikato and facilitated by Josh & Ioana from Marram Aotearoa. A space where all are welcome, we call you in to learn, create, connect and grow. He waka eke noa - A canoe which we are all in with no exception.

Join us for Koohatu (stone or rock painting) where you will be able to design and paint your own river stones to take with you on your journey. They can be used to support your hinengaro, your mental health, your wellbeing, your resilience, your hauora. These stones can be used to help you ground, meditate, and manage your emotions when needed.

This beginner‑friendly workshop offers an introduction to core Maaori values: Mana, Tapu, Noa and Mauri. Through discussion, reflection, and creative making. It is designed for people who want a clear, accessible understanding of what these values mean and why they matter, without needing prior knowledge.

Participants are supported to explore what these values look like personally, recognizing how mana, tapu, noa and mauri show up in their own lives, identities, boundaries, relationships, and wellbeing. The workshop encourages growing awareness of these values in others as well, strengthening empathy, respect, and connection.

Through a relaxed and inclusive creative process, this session helps translate Maaori values into everyday life—how we care for ourselves, relate to others, and create spaces that support dignity, balance, and vitality. Participants leave with both practical insight and a creative piece that reflects their learning.

THIS THURSDAY: Paints & Pals 🎨🖌️

Kirikiriroa! Here it is, back by popular demand, Rainbow Hub Waikato and CaliLou’s Tattoos are both excited to announce another Paints & Pals class, only this time hosting at the incredible new Iris Café!

This evening is inspired by the popular Paint and Pour concept, however this variation provides an inclusive environment where participants can enjoy artistic expression without alcohol.

Choose your own adventure this evening – either follow along as Cal and Lou provide step by step instructions on a guided painting, or put your own spin on it with good company!

Bring your best friend, partner, or use this opportunity to make new friends in the community as we all share a night of creative expression.
