With a marked shortage of mental health support for our young tamariki, combined with a considerable number of barriers to receive those services, Be Heard endeavours to overcome those obstacles by providing free and readily available individual counselling support and group wellbeing programmes for children across Dunedin schools.
We currently provide individual counselling services at East Taieri, Fairfield, Grants Braes, Green Island, Andersons Bay and Tainui. Group wellbeing sessions can be requested by any primary or intermediate school within the greater Dunedin area.
Mental health challenges can present in various ways and to varying degrees, therefore, we strive to reduce lengthy wait times making access to mental health support quicker, easier and less distressing.
Our professional and confidential services are provided on school grounds to ensure easy usability for families, within a familiar environment. Our team work with the children and others as appropriate, with the aim of bringing about positive change as well as normalising and supporting mental health and wellbeing within our community.
You can support our work by leaving us a one off or recurring, tax deductible donation. Be Heard receives no government funding meaning we rely on donations and fundraisers to keep us going.
