Election kōrero: Art Across Party Lines brought five political parties together with Creative New Zealand to talk vision, policy and the future of Aotearoa New Zealand’s arts and creative sector.

One thing was clear: the arts matter. The kōrero also highlighted the importance of the choices we make now in shaping the future of our creative sector.

Our moderator, Miriama Kamo, skilfully created space for an open and challenging kōrero, asking the questions that matter for artists, cultural institutions and creative communities.

The arts contribute $18.5B to our economy and support more than 120,000 jobs.

As our Kaiwhakahaere jessicapalalagi said: “Arts careers, cultural institutions and creative ecosystems take decades to build and moments to gut.”

Great people, big ideas and plenty of kōrero. The arts means business.

Our annual Arts Business Club Drinks brought together leaders from across the arts, business and legal sectors for an evening of connection, conversation and fresh perspectives.

From AI, productivity and the future of work, to insights into artists’ practices and what it means to build a life in the arts, there was much to reflect on.

Huge thank you to everyone who joined us – especially our Arts Business Club members – and to our friends at ASB Bank for hosting.

Here’s to continuing the conversation and strengthening the connections between the arts and business.

This Friday, 25 September, our 2024 Laureate Carin Wilson Kahui Whetu Ngā Aho has a major retrospective opening at Objectspace’s Sir Miles Warren Gallery in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

‘He maramara tupu aranga’ brings together five decades of Carin Wilson’s furniture, sculpture and design practice.

A practice that continues to shape how we see, make and think about design in Aotearoa.

Carin is also part of our Northland Arts Tour this November, where you’ll visit his studio and hear more about his practice firsthand.
