Christchurch Youth Council

Christchurch Youth Council C*C Rūnaka Taiohi o Ōtautahi supports & advocates for a strong youth voice. We work to make Christchurch a better place for Youth. Come join the party!

Tickets for aqua fiesta: https://events.humanitix.com/dive-into-youth-week-aqua-fiesta The C*C is made up of a group of active young citizens who take action initiatives to achieve positive change. We became an Incorporated Society in 2014, and do not fall under the roof of local government - we're independent and proud of it! We've have a formal agreement to work together with Christchurch City C

ouncil, signed this year by our Chairperson and the Mayor. This is a living document and we aim to make sure we build on this relationship to achieve some pretty excellent things for young people in the city. C*C is owned and operated by youth volunteers in collaboration with a full time facilitator (the employee) who all work in partnership to make C*C a success. We're always learning new things, and we love the challenge of running it for ourselves, sourcing funding from numerous government and private philanthropics to continue our work. This is grassroots youth participation in action and we recruit twice yearly, in June and November.

Rūnaka Taiohi o Ōtautahi / Christchurch Youth Council opposes the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill, and we condemn its passage at first reading.

We call on the government to heed the concerns of experts and protect takatāpui, intersex, non-binary and transgender rangatahi ❤️

Samoan Language Week 2026 ❤️

At our C*C Meeting on Tuesday we cooked a Samoan-style Chopsui (also known as Sapasui) and for dessert we had a serving of Koko Alaisa which is a Samoan rice pudding. Yum!

Congrats to Team Beef who won the cooking competition 💫

Can't wait to celebrate again in 2027!

Thanks to our C*C Committee Member, EJ, for coordinating this awesome event 🤩

Manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa!
Happy Samoa Language Week! 🇼🇸❤️

This year’s theme is:
“E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u — From the high mountains are the blessings of the village”

It reminds us that our strength comes from our roots, our people, and the languages we carry with us.

Swipe through to learn about the language, culture, and how you can celebrate with us here in Ōtautahi. 🤍

We've loved our (extended!) youth week! From Aqua Fiesta 🏊‍♀️, Sparkle under the Stars 🌟, vision boarding with Mana Tipua 🎨, to empowering local rangatahi in New Brighton with the first of our Amplify workshops 🐳, and hanging out with Dame Sue at the very first show in the new events centre - we've had a blast!

Some of the young women from C*C and YVC got to celebrate Youth Week at the 03 Leadership Collective’s Launch Party - Voices Into Action 🎊✨

The 03 Leadership Collective is a youth-led feminist organisation that is just getting started based right here in Ōtautahi! Their mission is to support young women in Te Waipounamu in leadership and civic participation!

Congratulations to Ruby and Mackenzie for such an incredible launch 🙌

Thank you both for such a warm and uplifting event, we can’t wait to see what’s next for the 03 Collective!!
