When a loved one is in hospital, it can be overwhelming. That’s why having a place of respite is so important. Ranui House is a home away from home for families who need to travel to Christchurch for life-saving medical treatment. Owned and managed by the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust, Ranui House’s 26 apartments opposite Christchurch Hospital provide a warm, welcoming space so families can stay close. We are here because we know that when families are together, they heal faster. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what kind of treatment you’re going through - everyone is welcome at Ranui House.

When their families needed support the most, the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust was there. Now, Joe and Lloyd are giving back. ❤️❤️

After turning to Rānui House while loved ones underwent emergency medical care and cancer treatment, Joe and Lloyd experienced the difference having a home-away-from-home can make. The support they received during this time has inspired them to give back.

Now they're aiming to raise $42,000 to help ensure more families have the same support when they travel to Christchurch for medical treatment.

Families staying at Rānui are often far from home and facing a challenging time. Right now, our freezer shelves are looking a little bare and we'd love some help filling them with homemade treats.

We're looking for volunteer bakers to spend a few hours in the Rānui House kitchen making cookies, slices, loaves, muffins or cakes for the families staying with us.

We'll provide the ingredients and equipment. You bring the time and baking expertise.

When Hokitika local Greg suffered a heart attack and kidney failure, he suddenly found himself facing treatment in Christchurch and wondering where he'd stay.

Nearly three years later, Rānui Apartments have become his home away from home, providing more than 500 nights of accommodation while he receives the specialist care he needs.

"I was stressed in hospital wondering where I was going to stay. But once I got here and saw what they do, I was very appreciative."

For Greg, it's been about more than a place to stay.

"They look after you, always check in on you, and make life as easy as possible."

Stories like Greg's are why Rānui House and Apartments exist, helping people access lifesaving treatment while staying connected to a caring community.

Check Mike out! ⛷️🏔

A few months ago, Mike set himself an incredible challenge: to ski 90,000 vertical metres at Mt Hutt this season while raising $58,140 for Bone Marrow Cancer Trust. Since day one, he's shown no signs of slowing down.

Mike has already clocked more than 62,000 vertical metres and thanks to the support of his generous donors, has raised an amazing $27,000. What an absolute legend! 🙌🙌

With just a few weeks left in the ski season, Mike is determined to make every run count. He'll be spending as much time as possible on the slopes, chasing those final metres and sharing his personal Rānui journey along the way.

🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙The team from Ashton Wheelans were back in the kitchen last night cooking up a storm and serving a full house, with around 38 of the Rānui whānau enjoying a delicious meal together. 🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙

On the menu was roast lamb and chicken, served alongside crispy roast potatoes, carrots, kumara and fresh salads. To finish, we were treated to apple crumble served with vanilla ice cream and freshly whipped cream.

This was the third time in the last four months that we've had volunteers from Ashton Wheelans taking part in our Meals from the Heart programme. One of the volunteers, Will, shared that he has been helping with these dinners for around seven years!

From all of us at the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust, and the whānau we support, a huge thank you to the fabulous chefs for your care and generosity, and for creating such a lovely evening. 🫶😍

How amazing is this? 😍😍

Earlier this week, we were visited by a group of students from St Margaret's College who generously donated a collection of handmade knitted and crocheted knee blankets for Rānui families.

The blankets were made by a group of Year 10 students who took every opportunity they could to work on their projects. We even heard they were sneaking in a few stitches when they were supposed to be focusing on classwork! 🪡🧶

Our team was blown away by the care, dedication and countless hours that went into creating each and every blanket.

On behalf of the Rānui whānau, thank you to all the students who contributed to this project. The time, effort and love poured into this project is truly appreciated and we know these blankets will be put to good use and treasured. 💙🧡💙🧡

Every year hundreds of families from across the Coast travel to Christchurch for medical treatment and stay with us at Rānui, often for long periods away from home and their support networks.

We're looking for friendly volunteers to join us at Agfest West Coast and spend a few hours helping with our donation bucket collections and sharing the good word about Rānui. Whether you're a past patient, family member, supporter or simply someone who wants to give back to your community, we'd love to have you on the team.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome the team from Resene as they stopped by to see their new Room Sponsorship plaque. 💙🧡

Resene has been an avid supporter of the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust for many years. From room sponsorships and regularly supporting our events, to more recently providing the paint for Big Rānui’s makeover (🎨), their generosity has helped make Rānui House and Apartments welcoming for the whānau we serve.
