As we near the end of a week of celebration for the wonderful efforts of our Marlborough volunteers, we are taking the time to appreciate all of the ways that these generous people gift their time and skills to support the work of the centre in our community.
We appreciate you all!
You assist us with administration, client support, support group coordination, fitness class coordination, fundraising, making our garden at the centre so beautiful, volunteering in our Nook, driving clients to their appointments, Executive Board volunteers, advocacy, meal support, providing cancer care products and so much more :)
Thank you is never enough, we couldn't do it without you!

๐Ÿ’• What a wonderful morning on the river for the very first Cancer Society Marlborough x Simply the Breast Social Paddle. ๐Ÿ’•

It was fantastic to see women living with breast cancer come together to enjoy some fresh air, gentle exercise, great conversation and plenty of laughs in beautiful Marlborough.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a success. Creating opportunities for connection, support and friendship is so important, and we're already looking forward to the next one.

๐Ÿ’› Happy International Nurses Day ๐Ÿ’›

Today weโ€™re celebrating and thanking the extraordinary nurses working across Marlborough and beyond who care for people during some of the hardest and most uncertain moments of their lives.

Last year alone, Cancer Society nurses across Aotearoa had more than 7,500 face-to-face meetings with people affected by cancer and supported nearly 50,000 more over the phone. Behind every one of those conversations was a nurse helping someone feel informed, supported and a little less alone.

At Cancer Society Marlborough, we see firsthand the difference that care makes. Sometimes itโ€™s practical advice, sometimes itโ€™s advocacy, and sometimes itโ€™s simply someone taking the time to sit, listen and reassure.

To the oncology nurses, district nurses, hospice nurses, practice nurses and every nurse supporting people and whฤnau affected by cancer โ€” thank you. Your compassion, patience and calmness matter more than you probably realise.

Marlborough is lucky to have you. ๐ŸŒผ

Today we kicked off a fantastic new project with some pretty inspiring young people ๐Ÿ’™

A huge thank you to Jack Powell, Environmental Prefect for Waihopai House at Marlborough Boysโ€™ College, and his peers who have stepped up to support Cancer Society Marlborough as part of their service initiatives for 2026.

Jack, reached out wanting to give back โ€“ and weโ€™re so grateful he and his peers have chosen to work alongside us.

Today marked day one of their project to reinvigorate our front gate โ€“ starting with wire brushes and plenty of elbow grease to clear the rust. Next steps: rust converter, then a fresh coat of our bright blue branding to bring it back to life.

A real credit to their school and their whฤnau โ€“ such a strong work ethic and great manners to boot.

Weโ€™re hugely grateful for their energy, willingness, and heart. Itโ€™s pretty special seeing young people in our community showing up like this. ๐Ÿ’›

Wishing our Marlborough community a gentle and restful Easter ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ’›

We know this time of year can look different for everyone. For some itโ€™s connection, for others itโ€™s a quieter few days, and for many, it comes alongside the ongoing challenges that life โ€“ and cancer โ€“ can bring.

Wherever you find yourself this Easter, weโ€™re thinking of you.

Our office will be closed from 4pm Thursday 2 April and will reopen Tuesday 7 April at 9am. If you or someone you care about needs support during this time, our Cancer Society Helpline nurses are available on 0800 226 237.

Take care, be kind to yourself, and to each other. ๐Ÿ’›

30/03/2026

Weโ€™ve loved seeing so many people popping into The Nook lately โ€“ itโ€™s been fantastic to have such a steady stream of visitors and support ๐Ÿ’›

Because of that generosity, weโ€™re now completely full and not able to accept any further donations at this time.

We know many of you are keen to contribute, and we truly appreciate it. For now, the best way to support The Nook is to pop in, have a browse, and pick up something you love.

๐Ÿ•˜ Open Monday to Friday, 10am โ€“ 2pm

Every purchase helps us continue to support people in Marlborough facing cancer โ€“ and that really does make a difference.

Thank you for your understanding.
