Ngātii Apa ki te Rā Tō would like to acknowledge the passing of Rt Hon Adrian P**i Rurawhe. Adrian was an instrumental figure not only during his time in Parliament but also during his time as Chair of Ngāwairiki Ngāti Apa. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Rurawhe whānau and the our wider Ngāwairiki Ngāti Apa whānau as they mourn the loss of a rangatira.

A couple of weeks ago our whānau came together for our third Tūāpapa wānanga and this time we incorporated our annual tuna harvest into the kaupapa.

It was awesome seeing our kaumātua, pakeke and tamariki learning alongside one another reconnecting with the importance of tuna, the mātauranga that surrounds the harvest, and the practical skills needed to keep these practices alive.

A big mihi to all of our pūkenga who shared their knowledge and skills with our whānau.

Kia ora e te whānau,

We’re looking for one or two whānau members with whakapapa to Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō who may be interested in taking on the Kaitiaki Ranger role at Rotomairewhenua over the 2026/27 summer season.

This is a paid, fixed-term opportunity to spend the summer supporting the protection of Rotomairewhenua, sharing the cultural significance of this special wāhi, and helping visitors understand why the lake must not be entered.

The role also includes general hut and track mahi, along with biodiversity and biosecurity work.

You’ll be living and working onsite during the peak tramping season on a 10 days on / 4 days off roster, with DOC onboarding and support provided.

E te whānau, if you’re wanting to get on top of your pūtea, plan ahead, or take steps toward your housing goals, Te Uru Ahupūtea is a great place to start.

Te Uru Ahupūtea is a free financial literacy course designed to help whānau build confidence around managing money, planning for the future and creating a pathway toward a warm, secure place to call home.

The course is supportive, practical and led by our people. You can learn at your own pace, ask pātai and work through what best suits you and your whānau.

Venue: Stadium 2000
Morning session 10am-1pm Swim at Stadium 2000, followed by lunch at the park outside the Stadium.

This hononga supports our ongoing commitment to helping whānau lead their best lives, with access to practical support around pūtea and pathways toward warm, affordable housing.

Through Ka Uruora, our whānau will be able to access tools, guidance and opportunities designed to strengthen financial wellbeing and support long-term housing goals.
