ElderLink: One Year of Learning Curves and Support 🎂🎉
This week marks one year since ElderLink began its work. It's been a year of quiet reflection and a steep learning curve as we have worked to understand the needs of our community.
The Reality of "Heat or Eat":
The "heat or eat" struggle was a sobering reality in 2025. We saw first-hand how seasonal pressures can dictate the wellbeing of some of our elders, with demand for emergency food provisions peaking at 14 per week in June and July during the height of winter.
This demand dropped significantly to between 3 and 6 provisions per week from September onward, however, the underlying vulnerability around the colder months remains a focus for the ElderLink board.
A Community Effort:
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us through our inaugural year. Whether you donated a dollar here or there, shared a post to help spread the word, or took the time to reach out and ask us to check on someone you care about, your contribution has been the backbone of our efforts during our first twelve months.
Our Sponsors and Supporters:
We would like to extend a special thank you to the organisations and individuals who have provided the essential resources and expertise required to keep our doors open -
Mitre10 Mega Marlborough for kindly providing account credits toward food parcel items.
Fresh Choice Renwick for their work collecting and packing food donations for our clients.
Tō Tātou Kainga for providing critical financial support during our startup phase.
Good Bi***es Baking for baking and delivering treats for our food parcels.
Lucas Lima of ThinkTomorrow.AI for volunteering his digital skills.
Carole O'Neill for her multifaceted support as a food sponsor, trustee, and regular donor.
Leo Neal for being an early financial supporter of our mission.
Looking Ahead:
As we enter our second year, we do so with a grounded understanding of the work ahead. We won't let the quiet summer make us complacent, as the memory of a high demand winter is still fresh.
