HURRAH, THE EXTERIOR PAINTING OF THE VILLAGE HALL IS NOW COMPLETE.
We are really pleased with the new look of the Hall. Now that is done we are going to work on getting new signage for it.
We need to do this as the hall hasn't been a Senior Citizens Hall for quite a while now. It is part of the Torbay Community Association (TCA) and is now officially known as the Torbay Village Hall. We are getting quotes for the new signage so hopefully it won't take too long to get it made and installed.
Advance notice - The TCA is going to be reaching out to our community next month as we need to start succession planning for our committee. Please feel free to message us if you have an interest in being part of the committee who looks after these great community assets - [email protected]

YELLOW NEARLY GONE ......
Further update on the painting of the Torbay Village Hall. The weather has been very kind to the painters so they have made a lot progress on getting rid of the bright yellow exterior paint and repainting the tired wooden windows. We expect them to finish soon. The windows required a lot of work as the paint was cracked and peeling.
We are really thrilled with the new colour scheme as it not only looks fresh and modern but also blends in well with the surrounding houses. We look forward to hearing back from our many hall users on the look of the Village Hall.
Hopefully our neighbours will also appreciate not having to look at the multi colour yellow weather boards any more.
Thanks to the $10,000 grant from Hibiscus and Bays Community Board we will be able to complete both the interior and exterior painting. Without it we would not have been able to do it for quite awhile as our own funds would not have been insufficientyellow.

GOING GOING ........
The Torbay Community Association wishes to acknowledge and thank the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board for the $10,000 grant to help us paint the Torbay Village Hall (formerly know as Torbay Senior Citizens Hall). The grant, and the funds we get from hall hirers, will pay for the most of the inside to be repainted and to fix and paint the exterior of the hall. The multi coloured yellow exterior and the green base colour will be going.
I am sure our local community and the hall users will be very pleased to see the hall get a big refresh. We know it is long overdue and very much needed but until we got the grant it was not within the capacity of our own funds to take on the work.
Once the paintwork is completed we will put up new signage on the hall to complete the new look. Progress photos will be posted once we are underway.

We are pleased to let you know that the Community Hall entrance doors have now been painted to match the new paint scheme inside the hall. They look so much better as you will see in the photo.

In other news, we are going to be starting the long overdue painting of the Village Hall in the July school holidays. This is largely due to the work of our Secretary / Hall Administration Manager as we have secured a grant of $10,000 from the Hibiscus Bays Community Board to help us paint both the inside and outside of the hall. We will be meeting the rest of the costs, which we know will exceed $20,000, from our own funds. We are able to do this because of our careful management of the money we earn from hiring our two halls.

We will do a separate post letting you know when the work is under way. The hall was in a fairly bad shape when we took over the ownership from the Senior Citizens organisation but we are gradually ticking off pieces of work. The roof was the first to be done, as it was leaking badly, and we can now start on the inside and outside paintwork. It will be great to see the bright yellow go!

CAR PARKING - This is an ongoing issue for the Association now as people see that the car park has space and use it even though it has notices saying "Private Parking"; they seem to think they can use the car park as a right. We know there is a shortage of longer term parking in Torbay but our car park is not the answer.
Recently we have had not only cars parking that shouldn't be but trucks and contractors who are working in the area are using spaces we need for our hall hirers. When we approach people using the car park they are often unaware that the car park is for Hall and authorised users only.
The car park is much busier now as we have more hall hirers using parking spaces more often. This casual parking sometimes leads to hall or authorised users not being able to use the parking spaces they are paying for. The Playcenter, Torbay Theatre and the Tennis Club are authorised users. We sometimes feel like a grinch asking people to move on but we have to put hall users first.

The Torbay Community Association held its AGM on Friday 5th June. Both the audited annual Financial report and the Presidents annual was tabled, discussed and approved. A lot was achieved in the 2025/2026 year. The committee and the Hall Administration Manager are proud of the improvements we have made.
We farewelled two long-term committee members, Bill Ellis and Helen Topliss. We thanked them for all the work they had done over a number of years; they will be missed. Both Helen and Bill have been voted in as life members of the TCA.
We have seven people on the new committee, one new and six returning members. The new committee will meet later this month.
Despite advertising our AGM in the community on this page, in both Torbay magazines and in the halls, once again we failed to attract much interest at the AGM. We would like to thank the two representatives from the Garden Club and Torbay Historic Society for their support at the AGM.

Painting in the Torbay Community Hall is well under way. We are very happy to see the hall new colour scheme take over from the old tired look. It has cost us a lot but we think it is well worth the investment and hopefully all our hirers and hall users will agree. Will post more photos when the work is complete.

We are pleased to let you know that the Torbay Community hall is going to get an internal repaint. The Hall manager and committee met with Resene colour consultant to get advice and suggestions on the colour scheme. The contract is let and the painter will be starting in early April. We are looking forward to seeing the finished look and showing you photos. We expect all of our hall hirers will appreciate the new look.
