Help Regenerate Awaawaroa Wetland 🌿

Join Waiheke Collective, on behalf of Waiheke Local Board and Auckland Council, for two community planting days to help regenerate one of Waiheke's most significant wetlands and priority biodiversity sites.

Bring your whānau, friends, neighbours, or community group and be part of something that will make a lasting difference.

💚 Why it matters
Awaawaroa is home to one of only two known populations of the threatened Giant Kōkopu in the Auckland region. This precious wetland plays a vital role in supporting native wildlife and improving the health of our waterways.

This year, we'll be planting around 2,600 native plants to enhance habitat, improve water quality, and strengthen the long-term resilience of this special place.
Whether you can stay for a couple of hours or the whole day, every pair of hands helps.

This is a Hands on workshop on how to grow vegetables vertically in the garden with the help of frames. Our hands-on workshop will show you how to grow vegetables/fruit upright in the garden by constructing a variety of frames onsite at the Sustainable Papakura Base that you will be able to recreate for your garden at home.

It's an early start but it will be worth it when you see the pile of rubbish that gets saved from heading out to our precious oceans.

Join local volunteers, get stuck in and lend a hand. We'll provide buckets and gloves - you need to bring the energy and be dressed for the probably muddy conditions.

Everyone welcome, the more people = the more rubbish we collect!

🌿🌧️ The second-to-last planting weekend is here! 🌱🍃

Winter is still with us, but our 2026 Rā Whakatō planting season is nearly at an end. There’s still time to get your hands dirty and help Auckland’s parks grow stronger.

Join us at one of our community planting days this weekend and help restore precious habitats, protect our waterways, reduce erosion and create safe places for native wildlife to thrive. 🐦🌳

Every seedling planted today is an investment in a healthier, greener Auckland for generations to come. Whether it’s your first planting day or you’re a regular in the restoration crew, everyone is welcome! 🙌

So grab your gumboots, wrap up warm, bring your whānau and friends, and spend a day outdoors making a lasting difference. 🌱

👪Bring your whānau and friends and help us plant trees to care for Papatūānuku and keep Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland green and thriving .
↗ Follow the signs to the meeting point – we’ll guide you to the planting site and work alongside you . You’ll head home (possibly) muddy, but happy.
👢 Please wear sturdy, enclosed shoes and kākahu hāngai mō te huarere (weather-appropriate clothing) – planting will go ahead rain, hail or shine (unless there is a weather warning)
💧🧤♠ Bring a water bottle and, if you have them, a spade and gloves – otherwise, we’ll provide everything you need.
🧽 Help protect our parks from kauri dieback – please ensure your footwear and equipment are clean before arriving, kia mā ō hū me ō taputapu
