We received a heartwarming letter from Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga to Tony on his retirement as a coordinator with Onehunga Community House and thought we would share an excerpt...

”Thank you for your many years of heritage advocacy and particularly the conservation and promotion of Onehunga Primary School (Former), now a Category l- historic place on the New Zealand Heritage List/Rdrangi Korero of Heritage New Zealand Taonga (HNZPT)”
“We greatly appreciated your assistance throughout the 2018-2019 review of the List Entry including organising the submitted petitions which comprised the largest number of signatories in support of a listing received in the HNZPT Northern Region at that time“

“We are also very grateful for all you have done in maintaining the heritage importance of the place through subsequent conservation work and related activity“

”We wish you all the best going forward”

Kia ora all,

We are delighted to welcome Trina as our new House Coordinator at Onehunga Community House!

Trina comes from a background in people-focused roles across arts, event management, and community settings. She is drawn to work that nurtures connection and a sense of belonging within the community.

Onehunga holds a special place in her heart — it's where she started her family, and she remains actively rooted in the area as a volunteer at Auckland Studio Potters.

She is looking forward to bringing fresh energy to Onehunga Community House, getting to know our wonderful community, and supporting the dedicated volunteers who keep it all running.

If you're passing by, please do pop in and say hello — we know you'll love meeting her! 😊

The annual Mary Dreaver lecture is on next weekend. Every year, we have a beautiful high tea & a wahine toa as our guest speaker - and this year is no different.

Our guest speaker for 2026 is the incredible Dame Judy McGregor - lawyer, journalist, academic and our first Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner. Her 2012 *Caring Counts* report, based on undercover work in aged care, led to an historic industry-wide settlement.

More recently, she has been actively challenging the government’s terrible decision to cancel 33 pay equity claims without public scrutiny and has taken an appeal to the UN on behalf of the 180,000 workers affected - many of them women in vital but undervalued roles like care work and teaching.

Sat 18 April, 2.30pm (starts with high tea, lecture will begin around 3)
Onehunga Community House

Named after Mary Dreaver, who was the first woman MP from Auckland, it’s always an inspiring afternoon and tickets always sell out before the event so get yours today. Link in bio & story.
* If you want to support but can’t make the date, pls consider sponsoring a ticket.
