Well Foundation is the official charity of North Shore and Waitākere Hospitals. HELP ADVANCE HEALTHCARE FOR YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR COMMUNITY!

The Well Foundation is the official charity supporting North Shore and Waitakere hospitals and community health services extending up to Rodney. With support from our local community, we raise funds to advance healthcare for everyone - babies, children, adults and the elderly. We work with Waitemata District Health Board to fund projects and initiatives that improve health outcomes, lift the quality of patient experience and deliver world-class care. The Waitemata DHB has a big job, serving the country’s largest DHB population of over 580,000 people. As well as running North Shore and Waitakere hospitals, the DHB is responsible for the region’s primary healthcare and other community services that run through more than 30 sites. It also provides on behalf of two neighbouring DHBs, child disability (Wilson Centre), forensic psychiatry (Mason Clinic), school dental, and alcohol and drug (Pitman House) services. We work across the largest DHB region including rural and urban North, West and Rodney.

🧶 Calling all knitters!

Are you handy with a pair of knitting needles? We’d love your help with something special.

Well Foundation is looking for volunteer knitters to help us create some very small, very cute knitted items for an upcoming Christmas campaign supporting the new Special Care Baby Unit at North Shore Hospital.

Whether you’re an experienced knitter or simply love putting your skills to work for a good cause, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ll provide you with all the details, including what we need and where to send your finished items.

A lovely gift for our littlest arrivals 🤍

Chris and the team from WS Medical have donated a bassinet, two sets of drawers and two trolleys with drawers for the maternity ward.

It’s such a thoughtful way to support all the families that welcome their new babies at North shore Hospital, as well as the midwifery team who care for them.

What a great way to kick off our Fireside Chat Series ✨

Last week we brought together supporters, clinicians, community leaders and partners for an evening exploring how innovation is changing healthcare across North Shore and Waitākere Hospitals.

Our clinicians shared fascinating insights into advances in medical training, breast cancer surgery, infusion services and ultrasound guided care, and gave guests a real sense of what is possible when clinical expertise, innovation and community support come together.

We have had such positive feedback from the night, and it was fantastic to see so many people engaged in the conversation.

A big thank you to Harcourts Cooper & Co, our principal sponsor, and Forsyth Barr for supporting the evening’s refreshments.

Thanks also to everyone who joined us, to our clinicians for sharing their time and expertise, and to our Board Chair David Downs for doing a fantastic job as MC.

A strong start to the series, and we are already looking forward to the next one.

A major milestone for healthcare in West Auckland 💚

Last week, Waitākere Hospital’s new facility was officially opened by Minister of Health Hon Simeon Brown, alongside hospital leaders, healthcare teams and some of the wonderful supporters who helped make it even more special.

Through our Every Moment Matters campaign, our community raised nearly $500,000 towards enhancements to the new facility, helping fund innovative healthcare equipment and technology, as well as spaces designed to provide greater comfort and support for patients and whānau.

The development includes a new 30 bed general medicine ward, which will welcome its first patients in the coming weeks, and is designed to support the establishment of critical care services at Waitākere Hospital.

At the heart of our campaign was a simple belief: when someone you love is seriously unwell, every moment matters.

To every individual, family, business, trust and community organisation who donated, thank you. What you have helped create will support West Auckland patients and families for years to come. 💚

⛳ Drive 4 Life is back — and you’re invited.

Drive 4 Life Charity Golf is back this October, and we’re looking forward to another brilliant day with North Shore Rotary.

This year, funds raised will help provide comfortable reclining chairs for cancer patients during long hours of chemotherapy and infusion treatment — making a real difference when comfort matters most. 💙

Good golf, great company and an even better reason to get involved.

Teams of four are $575, including on-course snacks and drinks, plus a post-golf buffet dinner.

Earlier this week, we visited Rima Ward at North Shore Hospital.

Following a generous donation from a grateful patient, the Well Foundation was able to purchase four falls alarms for the ward.

Endoventure is the supplier of the alarms and they also kindly donated two additional units.

Rachelle from Endoventure then provided a free training session for the nursing and Health Care Assistant team, showing staff how to use the alarms correctly.

Falls alarms are a valuable tool in helping keep patients safe, and we’re really pleased to be able to support the team on Rima Ward.

It was fantastic to see West Auckland businesses come together to support three great causes, including the Well Foundation. We’re so grateful for the generosity and support shown at this wonderful event! 💙

A community supporting their local hospital 💜

The sign above the door at the Oratia Spinners and Knitters group says it all.

For more than 40 years, this wonderful group of community-minded women has been coming together each week to knit, crochet, connect and, most importantly, give back.

Their beautiful handmade blankets, baby clothes, children’s knits and other creations have brought warmth and comfort to patients at Waitākere Hospital, from premature and full-term babies through to children and adults.

Some of their handmade items are also sold through The Well Foundation Gift Shop at Waitākere Hospital, with every dollar raised going back into projects that support our hospital community.

Their generosity doesn’t stop with knitting and crochet. Recently, the group held a PJ drive, collecting an incredible 58 pairs of children’s pyjamas, which were donated to Waitākere Hospital’s Emergency Department and children’s ward. 🧸

Our hospitals receive so much support from people in our community who simply care about making a difference through fundraising, volunteering and giving back.

To all the wonderful women in this group, thank you for the countless hours, stitches and acts of kindness you have given to our community. 🧶💜

Our next Rodney Champion is the delightful Ann Dewey, who reaches so many people throughout the Rodney community as the welcoming proprietor of Rodney’s only wool and craft shop, The Knitting Truck.

Located on Sharps Road, behind Charlie’s award-winning ice cream and gelato shop, Ann has a creative mind, designing knitting patterns and solar-dyeing New Zealand wool into glorious colours. Her talents also extend to dance teaching and choreography.

The Knitting Truck is a destination for beautiful wool, knitting equipment and helpful advice. It’s hard to walk out empty-handed—and nor should you!

Ann has taught many locals to knit and develop their skills, always giving her time generously and encouraging others along the way.

In Ann’s own words:

“I believe that together we are stronger, and so am delighted to be able to support the Well Foundation and their work in advancing healthcare in our region. Better outcomes for all is the best way forward.
